I possibly lowered it TOO MUCH!

Hey guys, PICS UP!!!!!! Thanks to 1LOC10, he is a great guy.

I just got done installing my 2 1/2 inch drop spindles and the 3" springs. I lowered the rear by flipping the axle. I set it on the ground today and WOW. I measured the middle of the bumber from the floor to the bottom of the bumper is only 8". Looks bad but I think I am gonna run into tire rub isues on the front. I run factory five lug truck rally wheels and a 235-75-15 tire. The tires turn in the wheel well but I can only feel about an inch between the outside of the tire and the inner fender. I have not driven it yet because i shortened the frame and dont have a drivelline yet. The wheels have a 4" backspacing. I dont think i specified when i ordered the drop springs that it was a big block truck!! I know that there are several on here with the same drop set up and say they dont have a rubbing problem. Am I OK or do I need a tire change or different front springs??

Thanks

Forgot to mention, Im gonna have to drop the rear probably another 2" with spring hanger to sit right.

You should really run the BBC springs.

8" is nothing. I know people on here that can't even slide a pack of smokes under their front bumper - standing up OR laying down. :D

I tend to agree - 8" sounds good - lets see some pics.

I have that set up with 255/60/15 on 8 inch rally rims (don't know the backspace though).... no issues. Smallblock though.... bumper height seems about right. Cheapest thing to me would be to change tire size (275/60/15 on back)

Thanks,
With the faded paint she looks good from about 15-20ft away (kind of like most the women I went out with - wife exception).

Jwn1975,are your rallyes 7" or 8"?Some guys run 7" on front.Do you have 1" with wheels turned? You`ll have less travel, now, with 3" drop springs.Do they make big block drop springs or one size fits all?Just swerve around the road kill, you`ll be alright.

You guys are hilarious. By the sounds of it you all want to be dragging your frames all around town. I am all for a lowered truck but come on.

A front bumper that's 8" from the turf is no-where close to dragging the frame.

Re: I possibly lowered it TOO MUCH!

All this talk made me go out an measure the clearances:

front bumper - 7 inches

lowest point (lower A Arm) - 3 1/2 inches

Seeing how the A Arms are the lowest point and not somewhere else, the front tires are in line with them and I haven't had a problem with speed bumps or dips (knock on wood). Roads around here aren't bad and the ride of the truck is really pretty plush.... less worry about scraping than my Infinity G35 coupe (which is only lowered an inch).

Did notice I have only about 3/4 inch before the rubber stops come into play. I'll have to trim them down....

Actually, it's not how low the truck is but how it sits in relation to the tires that was important to me. Don't like a lot of gap at the top (but not crazy about overhanging fenders either).

Big Blocks use heavier springs, yes they make them.
