700R4 lock up kits
 

I found two different types of lock up kits. One is from Bowtie Overdrives which uses the brake switch to lock up the torq converter. Another kit uses the fluid pressure to lock up the converter. The fisrt one requires dropping the pan and wiring inside the trans. The second dosen't even require dropping the pan. Any one used either of these?? The prices are really close so thats not an issue. It just seems if like if I don't have to drop the pan I might be better off.

i believe the kit you're refering to that wires into the brake switch to disengage the lockup still requires droping the pan changing one of the servos and a new internal wiring harness to be installed

yep, no way to run it off the brake light switch alone.

Both of you are correct... 1 kit requires dropping the pan. There is another kit out there that doesn't require dropping the pan. This kit doesn't use the brake pedal. Instead it uses fluid pressure. I have a link to it. Just wondering if that kit is junk or if it really works.

I have b&m converter lockup from summit $159.88 you can set it to come on at the speed you wont it to

I just looked that kit up...pretty sweet. So you don't have to do anything in the pan?? What speeds do you have yours set at?

My 700 has the hydraulic lockup in it.......though it is easy with no wiring and such, I don't like the way it works. When shifting into third or fourth gears, it seems to wanna lock-up pretty quick, which bugs me.

Maybe it would work better for a milder application, but I have a 383 with a 142 Weiand blower on it and I'm just not too excited to how it works.

I should also say that I only have a few hundred miles on everything and I do have some other issues with the tranny.....so maybe it's not working as it should.

I think I would rather have more control over the lockup.

I have the brake switch kit on a 200r and it works well. I just don't care for the lock up when driving around town as it doesn't downshift unless I give it a lot of throttle. The result is the motor lugging when I'm going 35-45 mph.

I'm putting in a toggle switch so I can have it not lock up around town and lock up on the freeway or other faster roads.
