What's in YOUR detail arsenal?
Lets see what everyone is using for what purposes.
Meguire's Car Wash Soap Turtle Wax rubbing and polishing compounds Zymol liquid wax Meguire's Tech wax 2.0 (spray wax) Meguire's Quick Detailer Meguire's Aluminum Wheel Cleaner Invisible Glass glass cleaner Resolve carpet cleaner Armor-all tire shine, interior wipes, cleaning wipes, and glass wipes Simichrome polishing paste Turtle Wax Liquid Chrome Polish I use various microfiber towels, terry towels, and a California water blade when I'm cleaning and polishing. IN addition, several lightly abrasive brushes call my "tool box" home for use on the cast parts of the wheels, white lettering on the tires, and rear differential. The products that stand out in my mind are the Zymol Liquid wax, and Simichrome Polishing Paste. Zymol is widely available and is some of the best "off the shelf" wax out there. Simichrome is by far the best metal polish I have used. It's been around for years and is expensive as all hell, but it's dam good. After applying this and rubbing it in and out, I use a small amount of flour and a terry towel. This takes what little bit is left behind after intense rubbing and makes the end result so much better. Results speak for themselves, so here they are: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...5/P1010346.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...5/P1010083.jpg |
Re: What's in YOUR detail arsenal?
That is a great list of products and a good thread AceX. I will have to run through the garage one night this week and pull together the products that we have.
One thing that I found to work great, and is more than likely under the kitchen sink..... Mr. Clean Erasers! Go figure... :D |

Agree, good thread. I don't have a lot but what I do use is very effective. Oh and I also have a California Duster behind the seat of the truck. It's not here.
Ace I used to use the Invisable Glass but switched to the Sprayway. I think it is better, IMO. The Xtreem is pretty good stuff for aluminum wheels. Just a lot harder to find. I really like the California Customs products. |
Re: What's in YOUR detail arsenal?
Mudder... what's the benefit from the Sprayway vs. Invisible Glass? We have several cans of Napa Auto Glass cleaner, which we've had good luck with.
|
Re: What's in YOUR detail arsenal?
IMO the Sprayway leaves less streaks without a lot of effort.
|
Re: What's in YOUR detail arsenal?
It does. I just recently removed it from my arsenal.
My only gripe about the spray wax is that if you don't get EVERY SINGLE SPEC of it off, it turns into a bright white mess and takes forever to clean up. Makes for situation-no-bueno in the engine bay... |
Re: What's in YOUR detail arsenal?
Another fun fact, Lemon Pledge will shine your tires and won't damage the polish on the wheels. Plus it leaves a fresh scent for the judges who get the dubious honor of judging your suspension...
|
Re: What's in YOUR detail arsenal?
Hey is would look to obvious is you opened your wallet for the judge...

Re: What's in YOUR detail arsenal?
Something that I have found is buying in bulk is a heck of a lot cheaper than buying one at a time. The Claifornia Customs can be bought in bulk (gallons) and the #34 I buy from my parts store by the gallon. They can order it. Saves good money.

Re: What's in YOUR detail arsenal?
Here's all of the stuff that I have in the shop right now. I mostly use the Zymol wax and every single bit of my Meguiar's stash. Love the Meguiars. I also have a plastic cabinet full of microfiber and terry clothes along with various brushes and sponges. I also just ran out of Gold Class car wash and the Gold Class Liquid Wax.

Holy cow twiggy! I think you live in a parts store. :D
BTW, excellent organization! |
Re: What's in YOUR detail arsenal?
Exactly! I told my girlfriend to break my hand when I try and buy something else. Here's the rest.

Re: What's in YOUR detail arsenal?
You definitely have a great arsenal for cleaning/polishing. :D

Re: What's in YOUR detail arsenal?
Yeah I like a clean truck. Plus I live on a limerock/dirt road that turns into one of my favorite mud trails after a good heavy rain storm. Plus my Blazer needs a new paint job so the various treatments come in handy. Also have some Meguiar's Scratch Remover around here somewhere. I'm ready to be able to detail my '63 so I can really put all of it to work.

Re: What's in YOUR detail arsenal?
BTW, I love the quip from CCT in your signature.

Re: What's in YOUR detail arsenal?
Haha, thanks BlckButy. I've always loved that quote. I honestly can't wait to pull into my Grandpa's yard and tell him to get his butt in the truck, we're going for a cruise.

Re: What's in YOUR detail arsenal?
budster, what types of metals can this be used on?
|
Re: What's in YOUR detail arsenal?
It comes in different grits. I use the fine (white) on my other trucks aluminum wheels. They are in decent shape so I just stick with the fine grit.
I got it at a garage by where I lived a few years ago, Napa in town here carrys it too, check it out its pretty decent imo. |
Re: What's in YOUR detail arsenal?
Was just out in garage and looked at one of the bottles.
Aluminum, magnesium, copper, brass and bronze is listed on label. I took an old, gunked up stainless radiator hose and hit it with some of the heavy cut and it worked pretty good. |
Re: What's in YOUR detail arsenal?
Thanks for the info budster, it sounds like a pretty nice product to have in your arsenal.
