O.T. ? about my daily driver...

I got a 97 Nissan pickup, 2.4 cyl. P.O.S. but it gets me to work and back. Its got problems. At idle the rpms go from around 1100 to 1500 randomly, just kind of cycles from one to the other. Doesn't go up and down at quick intervals, every 10 seconds or so. The thing has MPFI. I am also getting an engine code of P0303. #3 cylinder misfire. I have changed the rotor, cap, wires and plugs. Still get the code, though. I am also aware of the timing chain guides are wore. Any suggestions as to what part in the fuel system or sensors that could be bad?

could just be a vacuum leak, IE hose off or cracked, or could be sometihng bigge rlike O2 sensor or throttle posion sensor or MAP(manifold absolute pressure) sensor, etc etc

1100-1500 is high idle rpm !

Its running pretty rough too... You'd think that the diagnostic tester would read a bad sensor though. Just reading the misfire code. I really dislike this computer control crap!

Might check to see if the injector is clogged. It seems like that would cause it to misfire but not show as a different code.

are you useing a code reader or a scan tool?
code reader only gives you codes
scan tool also gives you serial data so you could see what the o2 sensors are doing.
i would think you cleared the code when r
repair was done.
if you still have code and runing bad,i
would check injector pluse on no3 cly.
maybe plugged.
good luck
