Outside Door Handle question

My 48 has the refrigerator type outside door handle, I like the later pushbutton style better. What do I need to change it and will the new parts mount to the same holes that hold the old unit?

You need later model doors.

you can put any style handles off any year car if you want. Just make sure you cut out the handle mount out of the doner car. I used mitsubiti handles

So what all is different between the two? I believe I read where you have to have the pushbutton style to do bear claw latches, but those didn't come on doors with 1 piece windows. I can't imagine that they're different enough to warrant changing the whole door...but I don't know enough about it yet.

If you do a search I think you will find a thread where bear claws were made to work with the pull down style handles.

Did the search for you. Deep within this build thread (around page 7-8):
