66 GMC glove box

Does anyone have any pictures of the latch for a GMC? My truck has a flat glove box door with 1 hole where a knob goes I think but no latch. HELP:gmc:

Kenny:
There is no latch on mine (1966 GMC 1000 series), just a knob. The glove box door is held closed by a spring on the right side that puts tension on the door when you close it.

I hope this is helpful.

This is the closest thing I have. I can take some better pics later today. Basically, it is just a button and the back of the lock looks like a miniature, upright version of a house door latch that is beveled on one side and flat on the other. The piece that the latch catches is a little bar that has two screws holding it up on the top of the glove compartment. Hope this helps.

Thanks guys. Mine does not have any arms or springs so I guess the hunt begins for the arms, springs and a knob.

Anyone have spares???

Kenny:
I suggest you check on the discussion group for 6066gmcguy.org.
The folks over there would likely have the set up for your GMC.

I'm going back to a junkyard with a couple of GMC trucks. I'll see what I can find for you.

Here are the pics I promised. My truck doesn't have a spring. I don't think the locking glove box's came with a spring from the factory. Any one know for sure?

Corts60 that latch on your truck is actually the same as a 67-72 gm truck, love your truck btw. On my 65 gmc there is just a black knob and a spring latch.

Re: 66 GMC glove box

It looks like Cort has the factory GMC latch inside the box with a chevy knob on the glove box door. The GMC glove box knobs I've seen have just been a knob, not a button. I never paid attention to what was inside though. I'm going to a yard in a couple of days with some GMC trucks. I'll check and report back with what I find.

So did Chevy's all come with the locking button? Is it just a special order on a GMC or???

The locking button on chevy's was an option, not standard from what I understand.

Thanks for all the help. My glove box door only has a screw hole for a knob but i'm going to look at putting a button there. Would be more useful.
