Installing shoulder belts in my sons 72 4X4?

I used the search function but could not find any info
The (new/used) truck my 16 year old will be driving only has the lap belts (is that all they came with in 72?), I need to install a shoulder/lap belt setup for safety, has anyone done this? Getting the tank out from behind the seat and belts replaced are first on the list. Opinions?

I put mine on the passenger side cause, thats where the girls ride.:metal::lol: rather have them safe then me... and i cant afford the driver side:lol::lol::lol:

The cheapest way to get shoulder belts is to either use late 80's/early 90's s-10 belts, or an aftermarket setup that you can get from vendors. Yes, you could get a shoulder harness in 67-72. Those are very very rare though, and you will spend 3-4 times if not more on them to put them in your truck. They are very hard to come by and most that have them, do not sell them. I have a pic of some of that I found for my truck, here:

I put 3 point belts in my '69. Very easy install, 3 bolts per side and you're done.

I used the 1st gen S10 belts. Had to redrill the buckel side and the reel to work with my seats (08 silverado seats), but the shoulder harness goes into the cab under those round caps in the b-pillar.

Not to Hijack the thread but does anybody have pics of the S10 seatbelts installed? This is something I'm considering doing to mine once I get to that point, But also would be a good idea to keep an eye out for when I go parts shopping ;)

For better looking and easy settup look into just replacing the seat with some newer chevy buckets with the belt built into the seat.

I would go with the new aftermarket 3 point belts that use the factory mounts and require no new holes be drilled. That seems safest to me. I believe Brother's and many others carry them. I used some 3 point belts out of a junkyard Audi and retrofitted them. However, before I start driving it for real, I will buy new 3 point belts like I described. Your son's life is worth at least the best seat belts you can buy. Don't trust used ones, the webbing can become weak from the sun and UV and you will never know until it's too late. Also, what if the used ones were involved in a prior crash?

40 bucks from a local yard:

And if stock, apparently no new holes are needed. I needed them due to my bucket seats being in the way. All my new holes are all backed by steel plating and body washers. Make sure their clean and not faded, and check the donor for any signs of a wreck.

I would really like to see some pics of how you installed these as well. Also, I am curious about any modifications you had to make to install those seats.
Thanks
