Maximum static drop 2wd blazer

So I am looking for some lowering kits for my 71 2wd blazer...
I want to go with a static drop, Can I go lower then a 4/6 drop?
How low can I go and what kit do I need to do it....

thanks :metal:

The 2wd blazers use the same lowering parts as a 2wd pickup.
I would suggest ECE. (Early Classic Enterprises)

This is my blazer before I bagged it.
5.5"/6" static drop.

I would recommend a bolt in c-notch if you go this low.

Wow, yeah that looks great, i like the raked look too, or is just the angle of the driveway its on? .. A 4/6 would be level then wouldn't it?
So without a C notch the axle is bouncing off the frame pretty easily then?
thanks

Re: Maximum static drop 2wd blazer

Yeah the c-notch is more necessary on the 2wd blazers than the pickups. It wasn't too bad when I was by myself,... but get 4 people in it and it would hit the rearend quite often.
It has a little more rake with the 5.5/6 drop (plus the tire sizes had a little rake also),... I was just trying to get the "tire-to-fenderwell gap" more even.

Re: Maximum static drop 2wd blazer

How much does the rear come up with the top removed?

Re: Maximum static drop 2wd blazer

I don't even think you notice the height rise, maybe 1/4".. I didn't notice much when i took mine off.
The top weighs maybe 200-250 lbs.. I'm sure someone knows exactly what it weighs..

I'm looking at getting a bolt on C notch kit from ebay, that will give me more room, can I lower the back end more then 7-8 " with the notch then?

Re: Maximum static drop 2wd blazer

I think 7"-8" would be the max.
I think mine with 6" drop springs only had about 1.5" between the frame and the rear axle tube without the notch. So adding a notch and a lowering block, will not help you gain suspension travel.
The rear of my blazer raised about 1" when I took the top off.

Re: Maximum static drop 2wd blazer

I came across some different kits/parts that I would like to try..
What do you guys think of this set-up... to achieve a 7.5/8 drop...

Front: (3") DJM or Calmax Control Arms, 2" coil, 2.5" Spindle = Total 7.5"

Back: C-Notch, 6" coils, 2" blocks, CCP trailing arms & bracket = 8"

Is this possible..... I know it wil be LOW

Re: Maximum static drop 2wd blazer

I forgot to add I am looking at running some 245/35/20's. I know I will have some cutting to do up front too..

You can't run a "dropped" control arm and a drop spindle.
Remember,... you need to be able to turn this thing.
Why not bag the front? ($75 each for most bags)

The back will work,... there just won't be much suspension travel.
Plus the center of the rearend will be very close to the floor.
Are you willing to cut up the floor under the rear seat?

Re: Maximum static drop 2wd blazer

Yeah I don't mind cutting up the floor in the back, the seat wasn't there when I got the truck and the rear wells have already been tubbed once so its not new to seeing sparks fly..
I didn't realize i couldn;t use the spindle & control arm lowering together... Not enough ground clearance to do both?
I don't know if it is rally worth spending extra $$ for the lower control arm if its only going to give me 1/2" more..

Re: Maximum static drop 2wd blazer

I'd say drop it 5.5"/6" and see how you like it.
Spend some of your extra cash for good drop shocks, rear shock relocators, an adjustable track bar, bolt in c-notch, and a good sway bar up front.

Re: Maximum static drop 2wd blazer

Thats some good advice, I can always build onto that platform..
I just really like the tucked look, even if its only a couple inches. I don't think I can achieve that with a 5.5/6 etc..

In your side posting picture, is your blazer rolling on the 5.5/6 or is it bagged already there? I really like the way your torque thrusts are tucked away..

Re: Maximum static drop 2wd blazer

The first pic,... with ralley wheels,... is my old static drop.

My avatar is the latest pics.
It's bagged,... but I have bumpstops to keep it a little higher.
I still have my front inner fenders and the rear floor is not cut.

Re: Maximum static drop 2wd blazer

Thanks for all the help lolife!
You having me thinking bags now.... since this is my weekend type cruzer...
Can you help me out with a Bag set-up...?
I like the idea of having the stops there so it can only go so low... Is your set-up pretty simple? What is the best components to get?

thanks!

Here's a link to my a-arm install.

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=325055

A simple bag set up would be the exact same as a low static drop (cost wise,...) PLUS the additonal cost of replacing the drop coils with 2600 bags,... and some type of "air management" system.

The bags normally run around $75 each. And the air management system can be whatever amount of money you want to spend. The possibilities are endless.
Tank size, compressor size, valve size, manifold set-ups, digital controls, etc.
Read as much as possible in the suspension section.
I also suggest supporting the board vendors as much as possible! They help make this place great.

Re: Maximum static drop 2wd blazer

Thats a great thread.... I will use that as a good start..
One other question regarding bags, I read that you can only drive around with them inflated up to lift truck to max. Is this true or can you just put the truck at whatever level you feel like riding at low/high etc. ?

lolife99 10-17-2009 01:15 AM

Re: Maximum static drop 2wd blazer

You don't want to run them at the max. Somewhere in the middle for normal driving. And as low as possible for cruising. (you have to be able to steer)

I had my truck aligned with the front end set as low as the alignment would allow. The rear ride height,... was set at a height that was comfortable and looked good with the front ride height.
