Just wondering if you have ever welded the patch panel on the front fenders. It's located in the lower front corner where all the battery acid rot seems to happen. If you have done this, would you happen to have any pics?

This is odd, the front part of my inner fender was rotted but battery tray almost immaculate. Maybe its a replacement. Anyway, I pop-rivetted a solid chunk of steel in place and gave it a thick shot of spray-on undercoating. Out of sight, out of mind.

TTT, I'm interested in any pics or advice on this as well. I've got the front right rusted fender and the patch panel.. now I just gotta put them together..

Ok, yeah, done it many time. Now to find the pics.......thats the hard part...LOL

It really depends on how much of the fender is gone. If its below the break or "rib" then cut right on the break and fit the parts at the break with a butt weld. That way there is no over lap and you can clean the back side real good and get it refinished so it is protected from future corrosion.

If it s just a small hole, then you can make your own patch and keep the repair area to a minimum. But still clean and seal the back side.
Here is a pic of that patch

I was thinking of ordering a patch panel from one of our Canadian suppliers and weld it in, but there is a decent fender at the auto ranch that I could get for about $40, so I might go that way and save this other fender to practice on . But if you do have pics of your work on this part of the fender, I am very interested to see it. Thanks again all mighty welding guru :D
