Here's a silly idea...make my 72 suburban a 2 door?

My Truck is very cool but the body's much straighter on the driver's side. I'm sure I'm not really serious about it but has anyone ever made one of these into a two-door vehicle?

Re: Here's a silly idea...make my 72 suburban a 2 door?

ummm.....it is called a blazer.

the blazer and suburban are awesome looking 'cause they have the nice long rear windows. the tahoe is the bastard child with the rear doors crammed in and the back side windows shortened so it looks like the whole truck got slammed in the back end.

I think there's about 2 1/2 feet and one whole seat of difference though.

Hey Cape,
I'm not following you on the Tahoe thing. I thought we were talking two doors?

Re: Here's a silly idea...make my 72 suburban a 2 door?

my bad......i thought you were thinking about shortening it. yeah.....a 2 door burb would look awesome, but be completely impractical unless you used it like a panel truck with windows. all burbs from 1935 to 66 were 2 door and they look awesome as 2 doors, its just really tough getting in the back. i've seen picks of 1 ton early 50's panel trucks with the extended wheelbase (as long as a more modern sized burb) and i want one....some day!

Well it's a silly idea that I'm sure I wont do.....anyway it's my kids' problem getting in the back and they're young so whatever.

Re: Here's a silly idea...make my 72 suburban a 2 door?

lol, let them deal with it huh. it would be hard getting back there, what would make it easier is 2 rows of bucket seats so they can at least walk in between them to get to the back. i would be worried about flexing if you just weld the door shut in that area, figuring that out is gonna be your biggest task. maybe you can some how chop the 4th door area (driver side) of another suburban and maybe flip it and use it as a skin to cover up the 3rd door, i would just try something other than welding in the door shut. maybe.... :)

ummm.....it's not called a Blazer. Blazers have a 104" wheelbase while the burbs are 127" not to mention the difference in rear overhang... It would be more like a panel with windows as mentioned.

As for the Tahoes, yeah what a cupla bastard children...

Re: Here's a silly idea...make my 72 suburban a 2 door?

yes....they have different wheelbases. but the burb and blazer rear quarter window and body is very similar (other than wheel placement). just the burb has an extra row added in. i figure if the difference between the burb and tahoe is only about 18 inches, i'd rather have the more balanced looks of the burb where the space between the rear doors to the wheel wells is about the same as the front and it has the long windows and cargo space behind the third row seat whereas the 4 door tahoes lines have always looked cramped. some people feel the burb is too long, but for me, 18 inches doesn't make any difference when it comes to parking. seeing (one) vintage style tahoe is interesting, but i'll never want one.....i'm a suburban purist. i'll just get a blazer when i need a short wheelbase.

i love all these ideas and all the these old burbs, but personally,i would NEVER change my 3 door.....EVER it's a VERY UNIQUE look, lots of people don't even relise it's a 3 door until they really look hard....THATS THE BEST PART, BLOWS THEY'RE MINDS......look down the drivers side,at that HUGE, SINGLE body panel......u'll see that no where else...period... STAY 3 DOOR FOREVER, just my opinion

The craftsmanship that Friz and Rock have is amazing to me. I totally dig the look of the burb-hoe.

When are you guys going to finish those things?

That 2 door is nice too, but it looks like a Blazer without the option of removing the top.
