have yall ever done this
i know that all of our trucks have the cardboard golveboxes but have you ever seen metal ones or made a metal base to mount under the cardboard so that you can mount something like a cd changer or something
|
I have some sheet metal...been thinking bout doing it. Even thinking of putting a shelf in the glove box to make it more usefull.
|
Never done it, but I have seen some custom jobs that used polished aluminum. Looks pretty slick, but makes it a pain either to install or remove it or work on the heater/ac. The one that I remember must have been hot formed, it was a one piece box. Can't even recall what kind of car it was in.
I'd look at using about 4 separate pieces put together with sheet metal screws after it's in place. Two sides with flanges, top and bottom that have flanges on the rear that meet about halfway up. |
I made one out of wood when I was in high school for my 79 camaro, does that count?

I mounted a ten disc changer in mine not to long ago. All that I did was take few pieces of 1x4 and screwed the changer through the cardboard glove box to the wood and I kinda sits on something under there I cannot recall what. When I get home I will try to get you some pictures. I had to do this and then install the glove box BTW.

Just a thought here, but making a glove box out of metal might rattle a lot. Could be awfully noisy.
|
I made one out of sheet metal when I was in 8th grade for my 67. I used the original one seperated at the seams and scribed it out on the sheet metal and cut it out folded it up and riveted it together. Was in the truck til recently when I finished the dash and put in a new cardboard one. It never rattled or made noise. I am gonna use it in my burb when I get to it.

It would be cool to somehow make a glovebox out of injection molded plastic.
