which motor for an ls swap
 

Other than the performance aspect of using an ls motor out of a car verses a truck are there any advantages to using one over the other. I will be using the truck (1966 c10)as a driver . Thanks

Price wise the Vortecs have the advantage, There usually at least a grand cheaper.

For a 1/2 ton driver I whould go with a 5.3/4L60E combo.

:agree: For the price, you really aren't gaining that much HP with the LS1 over a 5.3 or 6.0. But there is a good amount of weight difference. Best bet for good power and economy is the 5.3. If you are looking for more power, then look for a 6.0. Easy to make 500hp with a 6.0.

FWIW, I am getting 18-19 mpg in town, and 20-21 on the highway with a 5.3/4L60E. It was dyno'd at 266hp at the tires, which equates to almost 335hp at the crank. Plenty of power to move my 4000# brick right along. :D

new LSx motors can use the newer transmissions, or with an adapter use a non-computer controlled 200-4r, 700-4r, T-56, or whatever. I'm going with an MSD system to fire the plugs and a carb for air/fuel and non-computer controlled 200-4r, and you can also use aftermarket efi systems, or as most do... "transplant" the whole efi computer system, efi intake, fuel rails, injectors, sensors, and wiring harness into your vehicle...which generally leaves you looking for some way to interface with the computer and tune it yourself or get it tuned for best performance or in some cases...just to start.

Anything from the 4.8L truck motor...thru the 5.7L LS1 & LS6, 6.0 LS2, 6.2L LS3 car motors...and 6.0L LQ4-9, 6.2L L92, etc. truck motors....aluminum or iron block...they are ALL the same external size...and use the same mounting moints. Only the LS7 and LS9 are "different"...but not in physical size.

Go with the 6.0 if you dont you will prob regret it later. They are all close in price. At least where i looked and what i planed on doing. Any way you go you should be happy tho. They all great motors.
