Project Duke, 84 GMC-Old school style

hey yall, I finally got my hands on another square!

Its an 84 GMC High Sierra LWB with 350/700r4/3.08 gears. Has original paint, and power everything.

Heres the story- During school I dated a girl for a few months, during that time I noticed a red and white gmc sitting under a tree behind her house, flat tires, and covered in pine needles. I never asked her dad about the truck, I figured he didnt like me very much. A few months later I got a call from my now ex-girlfriend, asking me if I wanted to buy that truck!

I drove over there and checked it out, her dad came out, glaring at me, thefirst real conversation we had was about old trucks. I told him about my 70 chevy, that i was restoring it, and he seemed surprised that i wasnt the punk kid he thought I was. As we chatted I asked whats wrong with the GMC. He said the tranny was shot, that it constantly kicked in and out of gear. I didnt care, a deal was struck and cash was handed over.

Next day I came back to pick up the truck, this time he seemed happier to see me, and told me that he got it running for me and he even threw on a new battery! Score!

Loaded it up and brought it home... Ill let the pics talk for a bit. Enjoy

I began this project with a thorough wash. Using dawn dish soap and a scrubber i cleaned the truck for the first time in atleast 5 years.

The bedfloor is perfect, the liner has been in it since new, the truck never hauled a heavy load, it was used for highway driving and the occasional trip to the lake, pulling a small boat; I also yanked out the old rusted toolbox.

After my first drive I assessed the "tranny problem" the truck wasnt shifting in and out of gear as he thought, it was "bucking", thats right, a miss. Trip to the parts store got me a fuel filter, plugs and wires, after a little work, the old truck was running like a top!! now that i had it reliable I decided to dress it up a bit.

The five year old tires were cracking badly, so i decided to buy a new set. 255/70/15 cooper cobras, I also painted the stock ralley wheels.

Future plans include exterior work, interior work, fresh paint, and driving it! Im going for the retro feel, white letter tires, two toned paint, simple, basic, and clean. enjoy. any comments are wellcome!

The first truck we ever owned was identicle to this, paintscheme anyways. Drove it for a long time. Sure do miss that truck. Had to get rid of it under bad circumstances.

sorry to hear that, i sure love this truck though. I like things that have history behind them, such as my 70, and this truck.
