99 lq4???

looking at a 6.0L and 4l80e in a 99 work truck, are they a standard lq4, seeing as they were the first one out is there any issues with them. I heard that some had cast heads, and this ones on a tender and I cant see it to verify should I pass and watch for a newer engine???

thanks bark

That motor is an early 6.0 with the undesirable iron heads and longer rear crankshaft flange that will only mate to 4l80e/th400/th350 transmissions. Whether all that's acceptable or not depends on what the price is and what you're wanting to do with it. :)

well that sucks, you say the crank is longer and will only work with a 4l80e?? what do they do with the newer 6.0's do they use a spacer, cause I've read that you can get them with 4l60e in some suv

also can a guy bolt on aluminum heads off of a newer 6.0???

Yes the aluminum 317 castings will bolt right on. The '99-'00 6.0's had the longer crank flange to mate up with a 4l80e, because that's the only transmission that was available behind it for those years. Starting in 2001, the 4l60e was available behind it and they went to the standard crank flange and the 4l80e equipped trucks used a spacer. If you want to use a trans other than a 4l80e or th400/350 then you need to look for a 2001+ motor.
