Re: Have a terrible tranny fluid leak ?'sss
I would guess a front pump seal at worst - might get lucky and its the dipstick
I would tell you to pull it and inspect it It needs pulled if it is the front pump seal |
Re: Have a terrible tranny fluid leak ?'sss
Sounds like a front seal to me pretty easy job to do in an afternoon..

Re: Have a terrible tranny fluid leak ?'sss
I've had a lot of people tell me its the seal but they also say its a really hard job to fix. what does it consist of to fix the seal?

Re: Have a terrible tranny fluid leak ?'sss
You have to remove the engine, or transmission (easier than the engine) to gain access to a front pump seal. If your not certain where it is coming from it may be worth taking to a repair shop and paying a little bit to have them diagnose where the leak is coming from, if it's leaking as bad as you say it is it should be pretty easy to spot the leak.

Front seal, but what made it go bad?? The bushing is probably worn out in the front pump. I ALWAYS put a new bushing in the pump if I am going threw the trouble of pulling the trans to replace a seal. I do this for a living and it costs me money to repeat the job so I always try to do it right the first time.

4l60e's are notorious for a brass bushing leaking. It's probably not the seal. I've seen plenty of brass bushings fail. You can replace the bushing yourself.

keep in mind the pump to case Oring could be leaking. or the snout of the converter is worn. either way removal for closer inspection is in order

Re: Have a terrible tranny fluid leak ?'sss
From my years on the S10 forums, lifting the body to remove the transmission isn't all that uncommon... it is either lift the body or remove the exhaust and transmission crossmember. The trouble with removing the exhaust is the y-pipe bolts attached to the exhaust manifold freeze/rust in place.
