700r4 shift linkage
 

I have a 71 chevy 350, 700r4 trans. with a factory style auto column and i have the lokar cable shifter currently installed but i really don't like it i can't seem to adjust it enough to get more gears i can get P R N OD and sometimes D if i pull enough (the cable is hitting the column). So has anyone tried the shift linkage tha ECE sells or any other hard linkage that works better? My motor is also mounted in the rear holes (like a inline 6 and a 4x4) if that affects the line of travel any. thanks here is a pic of the shift linkage on the ECE website.

I have the Kugel Komponents shift linkage (basically looks exactly like your picture) I dont have any issues with it. I cannot seem to get the lower gears (1,2,3) to line up exactly with the indicator, but it doesnt bother me any.

yea thats the brand name of it, not bad for $45 i think when i paid around $120 for the cable linkage :lol: thanks

Hubscrub I just read your post. We designed that cable linkage years back. About a year or so we revisited the cable shift linkage kit. We redesigned the lower shift arm that goes on the transmission selector shaft. If you call our tech department and talk to Jeff or Eric they will be able walk you through adjusting the cable so you can get all your gear positions it is just in the adjustment. I had Kugel Komponents in my other truck with a 350/700 R4 combo. I dialed it in and it was perfect. Great price and great design....far better than a cable in my opinion.

Anyone tried the shift linkage kit offered by LMC truck for 700r4 in the 73-87 catalog?

hotrod and/or leddzepp, is this simple 'adjustment' done just on the rod itself by loosening the collars on both ends and lengthening/shortening the amount of thread?

My gear indicator on my column doesn't quite line up either. I thought it was because the acrylic lense was for a 3 speed when mine is upgraded to a 4 speed but it still doesn't line up just right.

Any tips you could provide would be great.

I have the same setup as you mentioned and I just installed the Kruegl linkage. Perfect and easy to adjust although I had to trim the rod a little (3/8"). Its fun cutting stainless with a hack saw.

I have the Lokar cable shifter and it works fine in all gears.

I have the CPP kit on my 68. hard to bend the rod a bit to help the joints from binding but it works great.

I just used the factory turbo 350 linkage on mine.

It has been a while, but I did that, as well as rotated the assembly that attaches to the transmission. You should be able to find a combination between the two to make it work.

I have the original linkage now, but have thought of using the Lokar cable because it looks like the stock linkage will be in the way of the exhaust coming off the Sanderson Headers I have.
