cool book of chevy stuff
 

while hunting for something i have not found yet, i found this cool book. it is the catalog of chevy truck id numbers, 1946-1972. it decodes all the vin #s, axle codes, tells how many different models of trucks there were for a certain year & other cool stuff. for example, in 1963 it shows 8 different styles of pickup & carryall plus the corvair! it has vin de-code, model id, gvw info, trans, rear axle, rpo, color, and engine info. it shows model #3604 as a 9' stepside! 9 ft? i don't remember where i got this but for anyone needing info like this it is a great book. it is a cars & parts matching numbers series, and is distributed by motorbooks international. copyright shows 1992 inside. it might still be available but i don't know. lots of neat info for folks that like chevy trucks! later!

agree! it is a great book, been using it for years. I bought another one, sorry don't have it handy, but bought it more recently, and it had all kinds of bad gouge in it (for example, when showing all the different models in pictures, etc for a given year, it had them all jacked up. Showed 64-66 cabs in the 62-63 sections, etc etc). If all my crap wasn't in storage right now, I'd list the book by name. Bottom line - it's nice to have multiple references, and remember that some of the best ones are on this forum.
