Help Me Identify This Part - Hint: It was under the dash
OK folks. Time for another round of "Identify my part". Found this attached to the firewall with nothing plugged into it. Can you tell me what it is?

Is that the horn relay? When I replaced my horn that is what mine looked like. If you dont have a horn and you push the horn button you will hear it click.

Looks like a horn relay.

Man, that was fast. Much appreciated, fellas. Now, I just need to figure out how to hook it up. :)

It's electrical....

Looks like the heater/AC fan high speed relay to me.

Re: Help Me Identify This Part - Hint: It was under the dash
if it was on the drivers side, then it is for the horn. Look for a 3 wire plug hanging there, red green and black if not mistaken.
If on the passenger side, then it is the high speed blower relay. |
Re: Help Me Identify This Part - Hint: It was under the dash
Just hooked mine up last weekend. It isn't attached to the firewall, but hanging right beside the steering column near the firewall. Horn relay.
The heavy green wire should come out between the driver's side headlight and radiator (mine had been cut off near where it came out of the harness there). No horn when I got it, but that relay was hooked up and you could hear/feel it clunk when hitting the horn button. |
Re: Help Me Identify This Part - Hint: It was under the dash
If you found it slightly above and to the left of the steering column it is the horn relay. If it was unhooked I'd think that either it stuck, the horn button or wire to it is stuck or shorted or the horn stuck on.

Another possibility is the anti-dieseling relay, if you have A/C. This goes to the right of the A/C controller, with orange, pink, and green wires

Re: Help Me Identify This Part - Hint: It was under the dash
We didn't have a working horn when we bought it and it is not an A/C truck so I'm leaning towards horn relay. And I don't think we will need it for our build because we're using a Painless Wiring setup that doesn't appear to use a relay (Someone correct me if I'm wrong here).
I knew I should have documented where we took it off from. I'm pretty sure it was to the left of the steering column. I'll try to find some pics of the firewall that we've taken and see if I can identify where it was mounted. Thanks all!! |

Like 2AM! Horn started BLARING! I went out in my pj's and yanked the spade connector off the Horn. "That'll fix it"...I said to myself. Next morning I had a Dead Battery. (come on guys, it was 2 in the morning , out of a DEAD SLEEP)!:haha: |
Re: Help Me Identify This Part - Hint: It was under the dash
Thanks, VetteVet. Those pictures helped me find the ones we needed that I took. I obviously wasn't focusing on this piece, but I can clearly see it plugged into my old rat's nest of a wiring harness. The truck just never had a horn so didn't realize this is what that was for. Plus, these pics were taken over two years ago so the memory is a little fuzzy!
