Big Back Window vs Small Window
Are the big windows rare find on these trucks? and is there a story behind why they made less production on the BBW? I picked up a 66 with the BBW and once in ahwile someone will say "how did you find this one with the BBW"...Just curious

Re: Big Back Window vs Small Window
They arent "rare", they were a option. most folks back then could barely afford the base truck so that is what they got ( small back window), its not as rare as factory ac or power steering to say the least. THe BBW is more sought after though.

Re: Big Back Window vs Small Window
I like the look of the BBW better, but prefer to drive the SBW. I don't like the sun beating down on my neck, and the SBW is more cozy. It's like my own little rolling man-cave.:metal:

There are a variety of opinions regarding big back windows. The following thread has other links with even more input:

UH-OH not this again, We are divided about this. But we do agree to disagree

Re: Big Back Window vs Small Window
I love small back windows. I wish our trucks had the really small "porthole" like some '40's vintage trucks.
That said, if I came across a truck in good shape with a big back window, well, I'd jump on it. |
Re: Big Back Window vs Small Window
according to my 62 truck data options price list the big back window retailed for $43.05 which was quite a bit in 62.when i bought my 62 i wanted a automatic with a small block and custom trim and a big back window, i could not find a bbw for sale in all of montana which makes it kinda rare up in these parts,i finally found one in yakima wa. so it was worth the 900 mile round trip.
like a old saying goes some like em big and some like em small. |

well i have a 1966 3/4 ton camper special with the big back window with side trim and i have a 1964 short bed fleet side that has the small window I;m pulling the 1966 cab off the 66 frame and swapping it with the 64 cab cus the short bed fleet side looks better with the big back window. And ya the small ones are better for the every day use But I've seen the new smoked black rear glass for the big window

Here's the poll that was taken a while back.... http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...=271793&page=2 The numbers will probably change again now that we're giving it attention again, but the latest numbers when it was last visited two years ago: 39 prefer big back window 40 prefer small back window (I'm one of these) |

Re: Big Back Window vs Small Window
BIG WINDOW all the way !!! no small windows except on 54 down an only if it has a 5 window back

Re: Big Back Window vs Small Window
I like the big window for visability. With my steering you only have a milli-second to look back to see anything I might be looking for before the truck drifts into another lane. So I need all the visabiliy I can get. The big window also gives it a little more modern look I think.

Re: Big Back Window vs Small Window
I like both the SBW and BBW. My personal preference is for the BBW.
|
Re: Big Back Window vs Small Window
I like and have both.
For all the reasons already posted. Big windows I think were more an intercity thing, where visibility was important. small windows for farmers and ranchers that need a shaded retreat. T |
Re: Big Back Window vs Small Window
I like the sbw, makes me mad that you can still get a slider for the bbw but not for the sbw...

Re: Big Back Window vs Small Window
I'm happy to have such an old truck at all and it should be back on the road, I like the one with the little rolling man cave

Re: Big Back Window vs Small Window
I have one of each and don’t have a preference. I am just glad to have them.

I like the looks of the big back windows but I don't need any more glass down here in Tucson AZ. I'll take the small window.
