West Coast Mirrors Wanted

I need a pair of junior west coast mirrors that will fit a 1967 Chevy/GMC 4x4 Panel Truck. I have scoured the earth in search of these, but all my efforts have been unsuccessful. Please help if you know anyone willing to sell a set!!!

JimKshortstep4x4 03-24-2003 02:26 PM

Welcome to the board!

What do the mirrors look like? My son has a decent pair off of a 72 Burb, but not sure what you are looking for.

Thanks for the words of welcome!!

Welcome as well. Borrowed pic from another board member but the mirrors on it are the Jr west coast style. They have 2 mounting points, one on top of window frame, the other on door side. Mirror is rectangular approx 11x 5 or so. I'm sure someone can supply a more detailed pic.

fyi, if you found a 67 4x4 panel, finding those mirrors should be easy. Not many 4x4 panels made. Got pics or details on this truck?

Mirrors

I think I have a set of those off my 68 custom. They are not in the best of shape. If your still interested I'll send you some pics of them.

paneltruck28 03-24-2003 03:15 PM

Yes, still interested; send pictures if you can. CPNE, actually, no, it has been very difficult finding a set of mirrors that will fit the truck. Thus far I have contacted nigh 30 to 35 Chevy/GMC parts stores and they've all given me the same response: "Hmm, that's a toughie, sir. They have discontinued the junior west coast style. Try a RV retailer..." And I have--with minimal results. Anyhow, your responses have given me hope again. Thanks!!! Keep the updates coming.

By the way, I have no current pics of the truck. I've just had it repainted--it looks spectacular--and I've still got a few things left to do before I'm satisfied, namely, finding a set of west coast mirrors. The ones on the truck now will do; only their in deplorable shape.

CPNE, the picture above contains the mirrors I'm looking for; just in case you needed a good example.

Those mirrors are considered "ugly" by a lot of people which explains why they are often times removed and replaced (thrown away)as vehicles change hands. Therefore finding a pair can be difficult. Ugly or not they do provide decent visibility and I can understand why you are looking for them. I don't think you'll find a set new and often times the used ones are rusted or otherwise damaged. My comment was more to the fact your vehicle was rare. If you find some, make sure to request mounting hardware too if available as the upper mounting point used specialized bolts and nuts.

Welcome! Take some pics of the Panel and post 'em some time...I'd love to see it!

paneltruck28 03-24-2003 05:03 PM

Hey guys, someone sent me this link on another board. Check these mirrors out. Will these mirrors work? If I should call them, what necessary questions must I ask? Is the price outrageous?

I'll try to take a few pictures in the next few days. Thereafter I'll need someone tell me how to post them online.

Your truck currently has the OE mirrors based on what I've read. Universal fit usually means that you'll be drilling new mounting holes, something you may not want to do.

They certainly look close but I'd ask if they could provide a picture installed on a 67-72 door or what there return policy is if they absolutely do not fit or look right.

Are you looking for something resto-correct? If so these were never offered in chrome from my observations.

I've never heard anything good about GSPP though I've had no personal experiences with them.

paneltruck28 03-24-2003 06:44 PM

Thanks for the reply. I've heard nothing positive about them either. And yes, I would have to drill new holes into my door; there's no way I'm doing that. There's got to be a pair out there...somewhere. I will find them. Am I looking for resto-correct? Well, yes and no. The hue of the truck is now metallic blue; so chrome/stainless steel matches the paint well. If I find some mirrors that are chrome or stainless, then I'd take them. Right now my mirrors are black, with the rust indentations in the metal still quite noticeable. It seems as if the original color of these mirrors were white; but I may be wrong (as usual).

krazy_texan 04-01-2003 02:52 PM

do what i like to do best when i cant find a part, GO TO A SWAP MEET!

paneltruck28 04-01-2003 04:08 PM

Hello Mike!

Those mirrors look nice, but they will not fit my truck. Thanks so much for taking the time to post, though.

As for going to a swap meet, I'm all for it. Only school work preoccupies most of my time. Good news: Two months left!!

paneltruck28 04-01-2003 08:38 PM

statamind,

Close, very close. But the mirrors I need lack the bar extension from the mirror. My truck takes a mirror--and I have no idea how to describe or call these parts--my truck takes a mirror with one u-shaped bar, which attaches in two places with four bolts. Two bolts above the window; two bolts below the window. So I only have four total holes in both doors. There are, of course, two special l-shaped mounts that hold the bottom bolts in place. So no tripods, or other kindred mirrors will suffice. But those mirrors, as far as I can tell, look darn close to what I need. Even the mounts look like the l-shaped ones I just described. CPNE has a picture at the top of the thread with a truck that I believe has the matching mirrors I'm looking for. But I have no idea who is the owner of the truck.

I'm beginning to think I'm screwed. Nevertheless, I can't thank you guys enough for your help. I'm honestly blown away by all the suggestions and offers.

Shane

I know that I have 3 sets of factory west coast mirrors. Like Jeff(CPNE) said, they are FUGLY! If you like 'em I'll sell 'em. I'll post pictures tomorrow night.

this is one set that I have. All mounting bolts are there! Paint is thick and there are scratches from razor blade scraping.

That's an exact match! I wonder if the paint will come off so that I can apply some chrome plating to them. Anyhow, yes, that's precisely the mirrors I've been looking for!!

Send me an email

CPNE 04-02-2003 10:09 AM

da-burb has 3 of everything. He probably scraped them himself to make sure they were not ochre underneath! (LOL)

FYI, paneltruck28, thats not a slam against Kevin, everybody who has been on the board for a while knows his favorite color is Ocrhe!

I know you'll be pleased with them.
