What are you guys doing for exhaust manifolds/headers?

I have stock F-Body manifolds on my 68, which perform just fine, and i highly doubt i will change them, but i am doing this swap again, only in another truck, and this one is going to be 4x4. With that, i am wondering what is everyone doing for headers? I seen a bunch of different ones in the "List your build!" thread or whatever its called.

Any help would be great! Especially from anyone who swapped an L-Series into a 4x4

not a 4wd, but using tbss manifolds. Fit nice and tight, but may have to trim the exh flange or the ear on a 4l80e for clearance.

What are those off of?

I see you trimmed the frame as well

I'm using TBSS manifolds also. I had to trim about a 1/2" off the drivers side of my 4l80e.

X2 I did exactly the same.

I am also doing a 6.0 into a 94 Ford Ranger. Maybe the TBSS manifolds will help with fitting issues on that one too....

Re: What are you guys doing for exhaust manifolds/headers?

that are the "flattest" manifold you can get. If you use a vband instead of the flanges, you gain about 2/3rds of an inch of clearance.

My frame actually isn't trimmed in that pic, its an optical illusion, although since then there is a little notch in the frame where the flange used to rub.

oh, ok. What is a V-Band?

here's mine. Dynatech LSx swap headers for '70-'81 Camaro. They are 1 7/8" x 3" long tubes, ceramic coated for $399. Quite a deal I think.

damn that is a deal. I still don't think they would work for the Ranger, but would look sexy as hell on my 68. I am very interested in how well they seal up. Once you get it up and running, please let me know. If they hold up well for you, than i am definitely buying some.

i've also been looking for some that will work but i don't wanna notch the frame not sure what your year is ratrod but i found these https://www.herronperformance.com/st...&productId=335

yup...those are made for our trucks and are a 1 5/8" primary....and if you're motor is putting out more then stock, they have a new 1 7/8" - 3" version

I thought you said they were for a 70-81 Camaro?

His Dynatech are for Camaros, but the headers from Herron are Doug Thorleys and are specifically made for our trucks. I think currently they are out of stock and are going to produce the large tube (1 7/8) instead.

For 200 bucks, i will notch the frame.

I already notched it when we installed the f-body manifolds, but they are just blah. Not flashy. I want flashy. And cheap. So far, Dynatech has my vote

i just cant pull myself to do that not even on a mud truck i don't even like drilling holes in my floor lol

lol, you would hate to see my Ranger then.... cut here, drill there, shave this, shorten that

Re: What are you guys doing for exhaust manifolds/headers?

i could never do that i like to treat my mud truck like a show truck except on special occasions like hill climbs, mud holes etc lol something about it bothers me i guess

I used the Doug Thorley headers and they fit perfectly. Absolutely no trimming. I think they were close to $500 shipped.

The Dougs didn't require new plug wires? I thought i read somewhere that you had to get special plug wires for them. Maybe i am just losing my mind...

They did, but that seems pretty minor compared to cutting up your frame.

Re: What are you guys doing for exhaust manifolds/headers?

eh, cutting the frame is free and uses tools I already had. MINOR frame notches or even large frame notches are fine as long as extra support/boxing is done if the cuts are signifigant.
