Step plates - how to install?
 

I need to put some step plates on my lifted Jimmy, tired of jumping in. How did those with step plates, or step rails, install them. What are you bolting or welding them to?, The rocker boxes?? Thanks for any help.

I have that problem on the passenger side. I saw a slick one on a parts Blazer once that was hinged so it would swing up and out of the way if you hit something. Unfortunately, the parts Blazer wasn't worth what they were asking.

I've seen some on military trucks that use heavy (like 1") cable as the vertical part. It seems like that would work pretty well, if I could figure out how to mount it.

I bought some steel pipe and welded up my own steps. I painted them with some Eastwood rust encapsulator (that stuff doesn't scratch no matter how much you step on it). Then I welded them straight to the bottom of the rocker boxes. They work great for me. Not sure if this is exactly what you had in mind but here's some pics if your curious

I plan to do something similar to what Foxhound did but I don't care to drill or weld anything to the body.

I plan to extend mine on over to the frame (it's a straight shot) and bolt them to the frame.

I just have this thing about drilling holes or taking a chance of tweaking the body structure on a rust free AZ blazer ;) So the frame seems to be a better option for me.
