Resale thoughts
 

If you were building a truck for yourself in a semi stock style, what color or color combo would you say is the most likely to attract buyers down the road when you decide to sell your ride? I know we all have our personal preferences, so it may be hard to say.

When I say semi stock I mean totally stock interior and exterior. Tire and wheel upgrade with maybe a drop but no air bags. And possibly a newer drive train. If I was in the market for a finished truck the only thing I would want to have to do is maybe change the tires and wheels. I think the street rod crowd would call it a resto-mod.

There is a pretty nice GMC Ive seen that's been for sale for a very long time. Its orange and has big bling tires and wheels. Ive never bothered to check it out. I like orange, but I like two tone. Big giant wheels aren't really my thing. They look OK totally tucked in (which this one doesn't have), but when I see bags, I see potential problems.

So if you were driving down the road and saw a for sale sign on a truck what color would make you whip around and go check it out? I see our trucks for sale all the time, sometimes I go take a look, most times I don't.

There are a lot of trucks on the board I really love, but I think 70cst's circuit rider is pretty close to the most perfect truck to match what I'm trying to describe. Its built to his tastes (timeless) and a truck I think most people would love to own and leave it as is. The green paint and tire and wheel combo would definitely make me stop and check it out if I saw it for sale.

I'm interested in this since I am going to be selling my 70 when I get it painted. I'm thinking of blue with white top and 67 grille area or "resale red" but am interested in what colors win out on here ;) Will have some form of rally wheel on it and a restored interior, painted engine and undercarriage and all new weatherstrip.

I think the classic two tone look is a good seller when restored. I see the blue and white combo on alot of restos.

If your just looking to resale I think you couldn't go wrong with black, red, or silver. Those seem to be the top 3 colors for automobiles today.

Personally I like just about any colors except for brown and purple.

For me it would be all White or White top, Red/White/Red sides. I also like the Light Yellow & White.

I am a huge fan of the green body/white top combination.

I am also a fan of the "Dark Gold Poly" with white top trucks (69-70), it's mainly because I admired one of that color as a kid so it's stuck with me.

You can't go wrong with just about any of the colors of the 67-72 period, but I think the real kicker is to have a white roof.

Can't say how many times my Suburban has been complimented on it color with white roof.

My 1970 K10 is all white, and I find it very bland though white is preferable in hot climates.

Black interior probably is the most appealing to most. Exterior for me is blue, red, black, green. I agree on the classic two tone.

For me it would be orange and white red and white and just white in that order

Restored?, factory color. Driver, would not matter.

red and white or blue and white seem to be the common colors that people seem to like.
For solid paint, I would think black, a medium blue or bright red would be good.

I had a neighbor long ago that was a muscle car restorer.
Every one of them he produced (+20 that I know of) where black, and I managed to talk to him when was restoring a '63 convertible Impala that I saw he had begun painting white.

I asked him what was up? Every car you do is black? He said that he was going for a change, but after our conversation the next day I saw it was painted black with a red interior.

I again approached him and laughed, what's up neighbor change your mind? He said that he had a fit of enlightenment, and said that every hot rod he painted black would sell twice as fast as any other color. He then said "I'm in a hurry for some cash..."

The Impala sold a week later.

another here for blue/white on a two tone. I don't care for red too much on trucks, but there are a lot of solid color jobs on 67-72's that are red, and look good. Seems like every restored/fixed up truck I see for sale is red.

I like the idea of at least a white top. I agree with most everyone that its a very classic look.

To me the sharpest are the white/color/white/color trucks. Color can be black, red, blue, white, green, the grapefruit yellow, light blue, orange, etc.

I find that painting them the original color always works well. GM didn't use a bad color. They all look great when the paint is new. I used to hear about baby poop yellow,pukey green,or gross pale yellow. Then guys started restoring to original colors and between seeing the colors fresh and the fact they are colors not used today that represent the era,I now here so many say,"I love that Ochre,Medium Olive,and Grapefruit". People would always ask,"What color is it going to be?",and when I'd answer,"The same color",they would give it the,"Hmmm...". Then once they'd see it painted they'd give it a,"Looks great!"

I think for resale the two tone paint jobs are the tops in a mildly moded resto.I think part of that is the trim.Nearly every truck I see being built is either a full shave or a top trimmed(Side trim,deluxe markers,chrome mirrors,chrome bumpers).The exception would be short steppers,which I think look best a solid color with a white top.


My personal"Snap your neck around and turn back" truck would be a small back window,67 swb stepper with maybe a white top.

I really don't think there's a bad color. I agree Blue, Orange, Red, Sliver .. white top or two tone really sets the truck off IMO. (depending on year model) but stay within the factory two tone combos unless you're going to take the whole truck to a different level. Bagged, shaved door handles yes .. you can break out of the normal schemes. RestoMod , I say make it look the way you think GM should have made it. Just a slick factory looking semi-stock truck with a good drop, a nice 'lick', and a nice set of wheels and tires. I don't think you can go wrong really..

Any color that has a nice shine would get my attention. What would make me drive off in a hurry is a bunch of over spray.

I think trim/wheels affects what the color "needs" to be, as well as long/short and 2/4wd. I think shorties look better cleaner; roof & below lower trim type of 2 tone. Long boxes have more "landscape" for maximum trim and color divides. Flash now and resale later?, White roof-red, orange or blue body color, lower trim, 17-18" wheeled short box 2wd. That being said, I'd almost trade my Blazer for a NICE 4X4 Suburban; there's neither around these parts.

Personal preferences aside, I have found in the 40 or so years I have been buying, building, trading cars, trucks, motorcycles and boats, Black and red ones alway sell first, followed by blue and silver, then by yellow and white, and the total worst colors for resale are brown,tan and green.

If you're painting for resale and want to do a catchy two-tone,don't forget to figure in about $500 for new trim and if you'll get that back out of it.
