clicking noise sounds like transfer case

I have 85 k20 37 inch tires had driveshaft lengthend and rear gear 4.10 replaced it was making a bad grinding noise thats all good now Just put a 355 roller in it wow is she fast to be big BUT new problem every now and then I hear a taptaptaptaptaptaptap noise its not the engine

Sounds like it is coming from where my rear driveshaft goes in to transfer case does not do it all the time If i manually shift into 1st or second its there go back to drive its still there put it in nuetral and back to drive it goes away mostly does it when first taking off or taking off and turning at same time

Nothing more than a stab in the dark, without being able to hear it.... maybe a u-joint going bad?

I am with stocker, try the ujoints first, the usual culprit.

I must say though that I have heard noise from a 208 transfercase that my buddy had problems with when we were out 4 wheeling that sounde very simular and was the chain in the t.case slapping around, put it up on stands and run it. maybe the new ujoints aren't as good as you think, like a needle fell out when installing. Grease them and see if that helps temperarily, got to locate the sound somehow. Start crawling under the truck and checking all you can.

Sometimes flexplates crack arouund the crankshaft and the noise is hard to detect unless you pull the flexplate to look at it. Just remember that as a last resort. Sometimes this sounds like an engine knock.

Likely the thrush bearing in the T-Case is worn. Happened to me. Does the T-Case have a part time conversion kit in it?

MAN FIGURED IT OUT

the noise was from the shield that covers flexplate and converter
took it off noise stopped and inside shield is scraped up inside

New Noise NOW converter is rattling WOW my luck guess Trans rebuil is in my future

Re: clicking noise sounds like transfer case

Convertor usually only rattles when the convertor isn't shimmed back far enough into the front pump or is shot, but could just be the front pump if it has worked well for some time. So ya trans rebuild.
