Front Spring Stop??
 

My '71 3/4 ton 4wd has this short yellow angle welded on to the frame near the rear of the front spring shackle at the driverside. Then it has another angle bolted to the bottom of the frame and the front is radiused so that it matches the spring eye.

This truck "grew up" a farm truck in Minnesota and had some other creative yankee fixes.

I assume it did NOT come from the factory this way??

I am planning on removing them but do not understand why they were ever put on. If anyone knows, please advise before I break out the grinder.

Notice how the spring eye had broken as well. You may want to check yours as I didn't see it until I jacked the frame up so that the wheel was free to unload. Kind of scary!

My 70 1/2 ton 4x4 has the same type as in the second pic.ctory stop I believe. The first pic looks like some Redneck engineering.

Its is because the steering linkage is on that side. I don't know why some trucks got them and some didn't. The idea is that if the leaf spring broke, the device on the back back of the shackle would "catch" it, thus keeping the axle in place, thus keeping steering somewhat intact.
