72 jimmy 2wd conversion????

Hi every1. Does any one know what the ball park cost would be to have my 1972 gmc jimmy 4x4 converted to a 2wheel drive? Also if you would know any good shops in my area that can take on the project as i am wanting alot of work done starting from the ground up. I want the build in stages starting with the chassis as i know ima put a lot of money into it but cant convince the wife to let me pull more than 4digit notes at a time.:waah: Lol. Any replies or suggestions would be greatly appreciated especially az i am new to this site and this is my first post. Thanks again guys:gmc2:

First off, Welcome to the site. As for your question, seeing that your on the west coast it would be a lot easier to find a 2wd and start from there. Just last week there was a post for a 2wd project in Co. So I would say get a 2wd and build both for what you were going to use to convert one.

Welcome to the board. I think there are a few other board members around your area.

SportTruck magazine did a write up a few years ago on the conversion - http://www.sporttruck.com/techarticl...ion/index.html

There are a few board members that may be able to help (but you'll probably have to ship your truck) or you could take that site to a shop and ask for a quote.

If you are looking to find a shop to customize your car, it will probably be cheaper to start with a solid 2wd truck like http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/c...-blazer&cat=12

Most that want to convert to 2wd want it laying frame...if that's the case, no real need to start with a real 2wd since most of the stock suspension won't get you laying anyways. What's the ultimate goal of the blazer?

I don't really know many shops, but American Pastimes is a new board vendor who sells Porterbuilt parts and is local to Sacramento (not too far from you I guess)...you can contact them about the work.
