Windshield Frame Rust

I was looking at a 71 K5 and I noticed rust above the windshield in the frame. How repairable is this? Are there patches available?

No aftermarket patch panels are made to my knowledge. Can be repaired with used parts. A good used rust free windshield frame is usually fairly expensive because they are rare. Upper corners are common trouble spots too - under the triangular weatherstrip end.

:agree: That can be a challenging area to repair and costly. Good Luck :metal:

I trying to decide on how much to offer a guy that has a 71. That kind of repair would be beyond my ability, so I'd have to find someone else that could.

Re: Windshield Frame Rust

I am no expert but I would think it could cost between 1200 and 1500 to have it repaired figuring $400 for a good used frame, removal and reinstall of windshield, labor, paint, materials. I may be off base - perhaps someone who does body work/paint professionally will chime in. If it were me and the rest of the Blazer was good, I would want to take $1500 off of what I would offer. Look carefully at the floor where they meet the front kick boards and the front dogleg as it turns up below the bottom door hinge. If water has been leaking down through the windshield frame, these spots are often rusted too.

Has anyone cut a windshield frame from a truck and made it work?
