Fifth Wheel Towing
I have a 2003 2500 HD with a 8.1 liter motor. What is the formula for the fifth wheel towing versus trailer.

Re: Fifth Wheel Towing
Maximum Pin weight.....
First thing to do is weigh the truck to find out what the truck's laden curb weight (LCW) is. "That's the weight of the truck with driver, passengers, pets, full fuel tank, options, accessories, cargo, 5th wheel hitch, etc. Maximum allowable loaded pin weight = Truck's GVWR minus Truck's LCW Gross Compined Weight Rating..... The MAXIMUM ALLOWABLE COMBINED WEIGHT of the tow vehicle and the attached towed vehicle. This info is in the owners manual. EXAMPLE... LCW= 6800# GVWR= 9200# GCWR= 18000# Maximum Pin Weight= 2400# Maximum Laden 5th wheel trailer weight= 11200# If this was the specs I was looking at for myself, I would go no more than a 10,000 pound 5ver, Anything over I would recommend a Dually. |
Re: Fifth Wheel Towing
i have a crew cab short bed. The manual states tow rating is 13,300 pounds. Guy at RV dealer says i can take 10-15% off fifth wheel total weight would be my tow rating. The fifth wheel weighs 11,500 pounds.
