Straight 6 250 sputtering after key is off
I have a 84 c10 with a 250 inline 6. Single barel carb. After truck is warm I shut the key off and the truck continues to sputter/pop for another 5-10 secconds. Anyone know what might be going on?? Thanks,Be njn

Its usually caused by the idle speed to fast. Also can be from a vacuum leak. Some of those used a selinoid on the throttle to drop it back when you shut it down.

After you check what Wrenchbender said also check the timing and choke adjustment.
If all checks ok, get a couple of cans of good gas treatment to put in the gas tank. You may have a build up of carbon in the heads and it may take 2-3 tanks full with additive added to clean out. Took me about three tries but haven't had a recurrence since. |

Has the truck always done this?
Or is this a new problem in recent weeks? Is it a new problem after installing an elecric fan, radio....? |
Re: Straight 6 250 sputtering after key is off
Recently. The head is rebuilt and it may be a timing issue as a result of truck being slammed off a curb due to a near missed car accident. Maybe distributor spun alittle.
