My New 72 K5

4 Attachment(s)
After 15 years of threatening my wife that I'm going to buy a classic car or truck, I finally took the plunge. I bought this 72 K5 4x4 last week, and can't remember the last time I was so excited about a new purchase (well, maybe my Big Green Egg). I have almost zero mechanical ability, but thanks to this forum I've already changed out the alternator and voltage regulator (still having issues), and the oil..God love the internet! I want to change out the wheels/tires for a more 'stock' look..some Ralley wheels I think (thanks to pictures on this forum), there is no AC and this is a requirement in Texas, although I've just made sure I've got a sweat rag and cold bottle of water when I've taken her out for a spin (compressor is broken, or missing), radio is missing (don't really miss this), it has Glass Packs(?) on it that I have to get rid of ASAP, and I don't care for the pipes coming out past the back bumper. Mechanically I
believe it is in decent shape (save for my starting issues), but I'm going to turn her over to my father in law (life long mechanic) to give me the real deal.
My kids love it..my wife, other than a little p-o'd over the oil spots in the driveway, is excited for me, and I've gotten many 'thumbs up' signs from other guys (especially the younger guys who I think love that it sounds like a drag car). My 'regular' vehicle is a '09 Avalanche, and although I really like it, I've never felt as 'cool' driving it as I do driving this Blazer!
Anyways, I'm thankful for this forum and what I've seen as a tight community that is very eager to help each other out...I'll be needing lots of help!

Thanks everyone for the props! I'm having a blast with her so far, so cool all the looks you get in one of these. I can see the envy in the minivan dads eyes when I roll by :metal:
Tom-I had a bunch of family over last night and did Pork Back Ribs and Beef Chuck Ribs...wasn't sure how the beef ribs would turn out by cooking them '2-2-1'like the pork ribs...but everything came out great...that's one of the beauties of the Egg...can't hardly screw anything up!

Very nice looking Blazer. Pull the top and order a soft top! You'll get a lot more "what is that" with the top off.

Where is keller?

Bouncy-I'll check out the soft tops..think I've seen a few online.
Keller-a suburb of Ft. Worth.

there's only one company selling new soft tops - http://www.softopper.com/chevy-blaze...p-details.aspx. Used ones can be hard to find.

Nice 2 tone paint job. The blazers never had that style of paint originally but probably should have. The OEM style rear sport bumper would probably look better on there too. You'll love it with the top off.

Very nice truck, dont see that two paint scheme too often, but i think it works. Welcome aboard!

If that is a glass fuel filter, i would ditch it....could set your beautiful truck ablaze

It is glass..or plastic maybe? Anyway, if that is a real concern then I will replace it fo sho! No idea how to replace a fuel filter, but that's what you guys are for, right?
In the 3 weeks I've had this beast (name given by my kids), I've changed the alternator, volt. Reg, mufflers (paid someone), break booster and removed/re-painted the top trim. All firsts for me, and all a friggin blast to do! Would be nice if Oriellys was a bit closer...I think I make a trip there every other day (mostly because I bought the wrong part/size/type...the first time, lol).

It's a glass fuel filter. The concern is that a rock will hit it, break it, and a fire will start.

Spenceman,
please listen to all this great advice on the glass fuel filter. some years ago, I burned my 71 K5 to the ground after hitting a speed bump and shattering a glass filter. was a very painful experience. I wouldn't even drive it again until it is replaced.

btw, with the weather we are having in N Texas this weekend, topless is the way to go!

I think I will listen to this advice for sure, can't be that difficult to replace a fuel filter I assume...will start researching if I could replace it and get a 'better' one at the same time...not sure if there are any differences between fuel filters?
