Does anybody know if, on a 68, this part (the center strut that goes across from shoe to shoe just under the wheel cylinder) is on the front drum brakes? It's the orange part in the center of the pic.

Let me know if you need more, I just did the front brakes and took a bunch of pics. I think your problem is you reversed the direction of the cap that holds the shoe retaining spring. It will cause what you are describing in the other post.

Do you mean I flipped it over?

Also, on the retainer with the red arrow that has check next to it. Is that the short or longer spring?

Yeah, check to ensure the cap isn't flipped over. Hard to explain ... lol

Not sure about the springs I'd guess the short spring goes to this side

Ok, thanks. I know they are dished and the dished side goes down but I did have another that goes on the adjuster arm under the spring and then the standard retainer on top. The retainers seemed designed to seat in the springs.

correct, maybe you do have the springs reversed (which throws off shoe alignment).
