Ordered New Parts - The Good & Bad!! Classic Parts

Well, I have made three new part orders so far for my 72 GMC SG, one with Classic Parts, and two with Summit Racing. I searched the forum....looking for "Who's who", and made my list of interior parts.

Summit Racing "GOOD": I have placed two orders with them....GREAT PRICES, THEY PRICE MATCH, FAST SHIPPING....they will be getting more of my business!!! :gmc2:

Classic Parts "BAD": I called in the order...seeing how I had a couple of questions. The Rep was nice and answered my questions and verified "all parts are in stock". I was spending over $1k, so I ask for a discount...5% "okay". I ask for a price match on the 72 door panel woodgrain inserts, they had it at $219.95....Brothers has them for $149.99.....silence......more silence...."I will check with a Mgr". Rep gets back on the line, "sorry, we can't match that price". Not good, but I go forward with the whole order, including the woodgrain inserts.

Below is the picture of one of the three boxes I received. Grant it, I did get free ground shipping for spending over $349.95 dollar, BUT they charge me extra shipping for the Dash Pad & Headliner Trim ($36.90). I can understand the Dash Pad...it comes in its own box, but the Headliner Trim box was within the overstuffed 56.6# box pictured below.....wait, it gets better!!

I signed for the three boxes...having the UPS driver note the box above. I start checking off items....hoping it is all there.....the Steering Wheel is missing!!

I called Classic Parts to tell them about the missing part......"Sir, that Steering Wheel is on backorder until after the first of the year"!! :cuss: I guess all parts are in stock means something different in the state of Missouri. So, I just told them that I will keep the SW adaptor kit, and the GMC horn button and refund me the cost of the SW....."Sir, you can keep the adaptor kit, but the horn button is part of a kit". They are sending me a RA-UPS label in THE MAIL, then I get to send back the $9.95 horn button, then they will process the refund (3 weeks later). Classic Parts, the best and worst form of advertisement is "Word of Mouth"!!! ;)

That's too bad about Classic Parts. That's frustrating to be told something is in stock, make a huge order, then find out later that something is out of stock for that long.

Summit looks pretty good. Just checked them out. I like Brothers, and they seem to have a better selection than summit, and most of the prices are the same, but there are a couple things that are less expensive than Brothers

I've always had good luck with Summit. Also, I called their tech help line with a question about my harmonic balancer and they were able to answer quickly and (more importantly) correctly.

That is too bad. I've had good luck with Classic Parts, but since I live in the Kansas City area, I go to the counter and don't deal with the mail order woes.

I love Summit... super helpful and quick notifications of order status/shipping.

I have had the same problem with Classic Parts and items being backordered and everything. They should be waiting at my door step tonight though hopefully! I hate waiting for parts!

My experience with Classic was ordering a gas cap from them. When it arrived, it looked like someone took a pick and hammer to it. It had a real nice dent in it. The box was not damaged. I couldn't believe someone was dumb enough to actually ship something out looking like that.

Summit has free shipping? Is there a minimum order?

I dont think so, but I normally order a few hundred dollars worth of stuff when i do. But I dont ever remember paying any.
Shoot 90% of the time they are cheaper then the local auto parts store.

If you order parts long enough you will find that the majority of the big vendors are hit and miss.

Sorry about all your trouble with ordering parts. I've had great luck with Classic Parts in Missouri but several problems with Classic Chevrolet Parts in Oklahoma City. Like someone said "if you order parts long enough they are gonna screw up at some point".
