Skyjacker - 4"
I have a Skyjacker 4" lift on my '89 CCSB that I bought through 4wheelparts. I have another thread I posted yesterday about the factory rear shock mount holes on the frame, but I think I've got it figured out. It seems like the shocks in the kit are too short. At any rate, I called Skyjacker today to get some input from them and the guy I talked to said they never made a 4" kit for an 8 lug axled vehicle. He said they make one for a 6 lug 3/4 ton. I'm baffled. 3/4 ton and half ton springs can't be the same length right? Did a 6 lug 3/4 ton ever even exist??
What length of shocks have you guys with 4" lifts used? These have a strok from about 18" to 27". As a side, this is a 9.5" 14 bolt rear end so the shock mounts to the outside of the frame. I also presume there may have been a lighter duty frame that matched this style of vehicle because it doesn't look like there ever was a shock mount on the insides of the frame like the 10.5" 14 bolt rear end had. |
Re: Skyjacker - 4"
Likely the Skyjacker guy you talked to is looking at a K-series truck, your '89 is a V-series. He is probably thinking IFS truck, not square body w/SFA. Call them back, double check that.
Yes, in the IFS trucks there was 6-lug 2500s. |
Re: Skyjacker - 4"
Being the owner of a 1989 square body, that is a constant challenge trying to get parts! I have no idea what the frame came out of and I think the axle is from a 79' burb. Where there different lengths of shock mounts on any of these?

Re: Skyjacker - 4"
shocks are pretty universal. a rear set for my '68 was about $70. rear shocks for my sister's '81 chev van was $130. the shocks were exactly the same, so she bought shocks for the '68($70), & installed them on her van. my lift is also skyjacker(8"), i put shocks on for a 12" lift-lots of travel, no bottoming, no problems. where they mount is'nt so much a problem, having the right amount of travel so you dont rip them apart is.use shocks for a 6-8" lift & you'll be golden
