'68 or '72

This is my first post ladies and gents. I am looking at almost 2 identical trucks except for the years. The 72 is a Cheyenne Super sitting on 15x8 rally's. And the 68 is a base truck with a few upgrades. Sitting on white wagon wheels. Just wanna pick your brains for the best choice among the 2.

Re: '68 or '72

72 came with disc brakes so that makes it more desirable to me as a turnkey daily driver with no upgrade for the brakes needed/// i love daily drivers so the more things that r there steering brakes swaybars pulleys mounts accessories the more attractive a truck is to me

i am very cautious of prior upgrades by previous owners cause u never know the full extent of skill or lack thereoff

The one with the least amount of rust wins.

ive alwalys liked the 68 bodystyle more.

Re: '68 or '72

Both need the same amount of rust repair. Rockers are history and so are the cab corners. Gotta love living in Iowa dealing with rustzilla.

The Iowa rust is why I bought my last C20 and my K20 out of Nevada and California.

They are not perfect but way cleaner than the C20 I bought locally.

68, the slant knose has and better look to it to me. Color motor and pupose of the truck matters as well.

Well, pick the one you like best if they both have similar rust issues------but be warned, rust is like an iceberg---90% of it is hidden--be prepared for more when you start cutting into it.

All things being the same rust wise, I would take the 72. However, Im kinda partial judging by screen name!

:welcoem: from another Iowa member... I would say check the body mounts underneath, and along the top of the windshield on the inside too. Rust in those places is usually harder to fix than rockers and cab corners.

Here is a link to the Iowa Forum if you want to stop on over and say Hi.

Hey turbo951...

:welcome2: to the forums and :hi: from Ohio.

I like the looks of the 68 but being a Cheyenne Super ... I would go with the 72 if all things are equal.

Then again the one that you can imagine cruising in ...choose that one.

Good Luck

Re: '68 or '72

Post pictures of both.
How much are you spending? If it's a fair amount, look in a dry state and ship it to you.
I like the 68 style better. But the 72 disc brakes are a great reason to go that way. If you like both styles equally, go with the 72.

Re: '68 or '72

The 72 is more modern disc brakes, 5 lug, and sway bar. The 68 looks better and its cheap and easy to upgrade it to 72 specs or better.

Just depends on what you want, what your looking for, and the plans for the truck. If you're looking for a driver or something to gut and build a pro touring truck would make a big difference to me.

That's the cool thing about these trucks. You can have both.

A 72 Super Cheyenne versus a base model 68 ?

No contest, the Super Cheyenne. You're getting twice the truck there. All the nice trim and options, much better brakes and a set of rally wheels.

Re: '68 or '72

Well just got off the phone with the owner of the 72, it's a straight cheyenne. Bummer but has a lot of new interior parts, so I am gonna go for the 72. Thanks everyone for all your input.
