Re: for the dually guys....20" rims
thats what i was thinking too....i had never seen a direct bolt on in 20" might save some guys time and money when looking at upgrading. not to mention all the fitment issues with the firewall and rear fenders??

Re: for the dually guys....20" rims
would let me run lower profile tires too! i was gonna go 19.5 but the smallest tire i can find for them was about 33" tall! with these i could run a lower profile tire, since mines a 2wd and will be stock hieght

Re: for the dually guys....20" rims
yea i was wondering about that, i didnt think you could run aluminum inners as they were too thick.
|
Re: for the dually guys....20" rims
ive seen it done, im assuming they had the mounting surface milled down as well?
|
Re: for the dually guys....20" rims
I wonder what tire you would use with these?
They're only 7.5" wide,... 235/45-20? http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....=yes&tab=Specs |
Re: for the dually guys....20" rims
thats a good question? hmm i will have to look into that?

Re: for the dually guys....20" rims
Several choices in 245-45/20, 255-55/20, and 265-45/20.
Usually people are running 265's or 285's on cut down Alcoas, which are only 8 or 8.5" wide. If the wheels really are made to be run in pairs on the rear axle, then no problem. If not then you would have to match the 20 to whatever size was on the inner steelie. EDIT: I called dude and asked specifically whether the wheels are made to be run in pairs, and if so what tire sizes are good to keep them from rubbing. So when and if he hits me back I'll post up the info for errbody. |
Re: for the dually guys....20" rims
Since it's Saturday night and I have no life I crunched the numbers.
My dually is currently slowly sinking into my yard on 215/85-16's (overall diameter of 30.4"). The closest 20" sizes would be a 265/50-20 (30.4) followed by 255/50-20 (30" even). Both sizes sell for an average of $200 @ Discount Tire Direct (I had to pick an average figure since tire pricing is all over the map). Add in the pricing on the wheels ($1500 or $1700) and it bumps the total up to $2700 for classics or $2900 for straight spokers. I'd guess mounting and balancing would add another hun, give or take. To play devil's advocate, Lock sells cut semi wheel packages starting at about $3500, and the Townasty wheels for around $4250, IIRC. Granted, these prices are only for four wheels, but does include adapters which run about $800 - 900 by themselves. I use Lock as an example because the prices are on the website for anybody to see. So you pays your money and makes your choices. I saw these wheels last week and thought a set of 20's would be hella cheaper than a set of semi's, but that really doesn't seem to be the case, unless you don't have a problem with really super cheap tires like, I dunno, LingLongs or whatever, or have a tire hookup (I don't). IMO, if you don't choke on a 3K price tag you might as well step up and get what you really want. DISCLAIMER: the tire prices I got are for name brand tires (Falken, Kumho, and BFG). There are probably cheaper tires out there especially on eBay, or even nice used tires. |
Re: for the dually guys....20" rims
i like these wheels.... is an option for the guys that dont want enlarge rear fenders/narrow the axle...

Re: for the dually guys....20" rims
Everyone is talking about low profile tires for a 2wd. What about 4x4"s ? How would 9.00-20's or 10.00-20's work out? 9.00-20's, same as on a military truck, would be great for off road.

Re: for the dually guys....20" rims
I'm just looking for a tire that will look correct on a 20x7.5" rim.
To me,... a 255 or 265 tire is too wide for a 7.5" rim. |
Re: for the dually guys....20" rims
i would like these because i like the 19.5s i think the semi wheels are just too big, and i dont intend to cut my truck up just to fit wheels, and the townastys are waayyy more expensive than the 2700 for these 22.5s wheels and adapters and tires can easily fetch 5k

Both sizes are made by Falken, and run $140 - 165 depending on where you shop. I run 215/35-16's on a 9.5" wide wheel on my GTI, so going the other direction doesn't scare me. Having said that, though, a balloned-out sidewall might cause a problem if you were running four wide tires on the rear. Which is kinda why I'd like to get some input from buddy selling the wheels. |
Re: for the dually guys....20" rims
225/70/16 is whats on my truck now
|
Re: for the dually guys....20" rims
this guy is 1 hr and a half away from from me so i save shipping...... but i have to pay the tax i always liked the classic style wheel i may have to look into tires a little more for my dually i would run like a 45 series tire nothing bigger....

Re: for the dually guys....20" rims
I heard these were coming out. So I am glad to see them. I have 22s on my black truck and love them but on my red truck I only have 17s and want bigger! These will fit right in perfect. I can still keep a decent size side wall for the crappy roads here in Tulsa. Only thing that will kill it for me is if you have to run a different size inside rear wheel. I think they all need to match. But that's just my opinion.

Re: for the dually guys....20" rims
Did a little more looking this morning. As of right now 245 section width is the narrowest tire Google can find in 20". If anybody knows better then let's hear it.
Normally tire manu's recommend anywhere from a 205 up to a 245 section width on a 7.5" wide wheel rim. Different tire models carry differing recommendations though so keep that in mind. We should be good with a 245 or 255, even if it looks a little blocky or balloned. Surely it won't look as bad as a 235/85-16 on a 16x6 wheel. I am also somewhat concerned about the overall width of the rear wheels / tires. Wondering if the Eagle 20's have enough offset to keep the tires inside the fenders on a low truck. |

On their face, they seem really cool, but I still have some reservations that make me want to hold off until everyone else figures out all the little "quirks" that are associated with running these wheels. 1. You still have the same issue with these as you do with milled semis in regards to load-rated tires. I know there's a lot of guys who tow decent loads on car tires without issue, but I'd hate to be the guy that has a blowout while towing. Best case, you're shredding a fender; worst case, someone gets hurt/killed. Neither of these are something I'm willing to deal with. 2. Can you really run all six? I *hate* the rear profile view when tire widths/profiles are mis-matched because the wheels are different. Not to mention, even on tires with the same spec'd overall diameter, you're still going to have minute differences in circumference which results in uneven tire wear. If you can run all six, are the offsets such that they actually fit under the truck? Like mis-matched tires, wheels hanging past the fenders look uber-dorky and completely negate any "cool" factor. Fender stretching, IMO, looks hideous. Narrowing the rear is an option, but do you really want to go to all that trouble? Like D.FENS said, at that point, the costs have come close to or exceeded the cost of a set of TowNastys. Even if you can work past the issues in #2, for me, it still comes back to the issues in #1. As a guy who's been know to max out his GCW from time to time, I wouldn't feel comfortable running a set of car/light truck tires. |
Re: for the dually guys....20" rims
Lots of good points.
I'll bet money, they don't tuck for low/bagged trucks. I'm sure the specs are the same as oem wheels. I doubt you can run four 20's in the rear. Don't the adapters for the 22-24" semi wheels have longer studs? This is what allows you to double up on the rear. I see these as a stock or lifted dually wheel,... |
