My 67 CocaCola Longbed Stepside Basket Case

4 Attachment(s)
Had some time to tear into my 67 C20 longbed stepside today. Got it to crank over nice and easy, but did not fire up. Will change out plugs and wires next time. Radiator hoses are rotted so it won't hold coolant. Radiator doesn't look correct. Here's a shot of the engine compartment. Had to chase off some monster black widows who decided to call it home. Pulled off one valve cover just for ****s and giggles- pretty black and crusty underneath. Looks like a 283 with a Rochester 2bbl- decals are gone. Couldn't see the block numbers so I don't know for sure. Was there any 2-bbl 327's for 67? Doubt it. Oh well. Now to figure out what parts I need to get this thing on the road.

change your oil and filter. pull plugs and spray a little oil on the cycinders and put new plugs ,plug wires. points and cond.check cap and rotor, check for old gas in tank. make sure fuel pump is working and not leaking . look down the throat of the carb and see if anything is lurking inside. poor a little gas in the carb and see if it will crank...i would also run some M M oil in the oil and change the oil again in about 300 to 400 miles to clean out the inside of the motor..

you also need to check the points they're probably a little crusty and need a good cleaning to make contact. I believe the 327 had a two barrel version but not sure about it. Ss Tim posted power charts search them out that will tell ya

Yep. Pretty basic. No frills. Was a vending machine delivery truck from what I'm told. Thanks for the advice on getting it running. I'll see what blows out the tail pipe on first fire.

Any ideas on paint? It would be cool to put it back to the "Coke" paint job. Should be a cool ride. :metal:

What he said /\. That'd look sweet, especially since it's the real thing.

Naw....I'm thinking the light green with white top and nose. Or eye-catching primer gray, depending on funds available. Unless the Coke marketing folks want to chip in some dough.

I just noticed something: How did you get so much gas in your tank? According to the gauge, you're carrying about 30 gallons!

is that a machine lift gate on the truck from coke?

Re: My 67 CocaCola Longbed Stepside Basket Case

Then it should fire right up with the extra high capacity tank. Smells like high test. Or 35 years as a farmer's urinal.

Yep. Tommy lift included on my little purchase. But now I don't have a tailgate. Might be kinda cool to leave it on.

man, it would be really cool to go back with the coke theme and show it with a old coke machine in the back......... wish i could find one. it would be a show stopper for sure.

It's ok to be crazy. Keeps the wierdos away. Got any good pics you can point me too?

If you put green paint on that truck a puppy will die and the seven plagues will be released! Stay with the ~Coca~Cola~ theme and "Teach The World To Sing!"

In my opinion, a very bad thing indeed...These 67-72 trucks exude Americana in her finest hour in any color and in any set up...But to find an original Coca~Cola truck in these years is like finding the Holy Grail of what these trucks truly represent...I'd be the first guy to tell you to paint that truck any color you wish because it's YOURS and You are the only one You must ultimately please...But to paint that original nostalgic piece of American History any color than what it is/was...Would be like changing the colors of the American flag..."In my opinion" of course..."just sayin" ;) Its an original like the Mona Lisa!

I'm not sure how original the Coke colors are. The truck is color coded ivory on the SPID. The red is kinda slopped on, dripping down between the top of the fenders and hood. Also looks like there is a coat of yellow under there too. I appreciate the input though. Something to consider.

Re: My 67 CocaCola Longbed Stepside Basket Case

IT'S ALIVE, IT'S ALIVE....

After changing out all the ignition parts, radiator hoses, an expansion plug in the block, killing off some black widows, and removing blackberry vines that had grown up into the chasis, I got the old girl to fire up today. Squirted a bit of oil on top of the cylinders, splashed a bit o' gas in the carb, and she breathed fire for a few seconds. Surprisingly sounded really good after 30 years of sitting.

She only ran for as long as that bit o' gas lasted, but I'm pretty happy. Only problem is the carb isn't getting any gas from the fuel pump. The truck came with 2 fuel filters: one at the carb and a canister type inside the frame rail under the cab. The little one at the carb looked clean, but the canister one had tons of gunk in it. So, next I'm going to blow out the fuel lines, replace the canister filter, and maybe just go ahead and get a new fuel pump just in case. I should probably pull the gas tank and flush it out too.

Last but not least, got my docs submitted to DMV for a new title. Should be here in a couple of weeks. Now I just need to decide to keep it or sell it.
