Swed 62 Gauge Cluster update

Hey guys,
You originals will probably hate this but its my truck

I really didn't like the original 60-63 gauge cluster due to its simple lights telling me when engine is overheated and what not..
After a while of searching the interweb I found the deluxe cluster but wasn'nt pleased with the layout of it.
Here's a link to a picture of the deluxe cluster

Well, I started to think about to replace the gauges to something new, like autometer, dolphin and such.. but I felt that would be something a little too much money.
So what I did was to go over the interweb again and I found a 72 C20 cluster on Ebay and started to just compare the sizes of the gauges and found out that they looked very similar sizewise. So got that 72 cluster and got it home.
So my first little project started..

My speedo needle was in 1K pieces so I needed to find something to replace that with. So then I started off taking the needle off the 72 cluster. Found out very soon that the 62 speedo had a smaller pin to attach the needle to and when I rotated the speedo I made some funny noice so then I started to look if I could use the 72 speedo.

Well, this is what happened,

The scale is different I know but when I'm in europe I need to replace the USscale to Metrics anyway, and when the engine and trans has been changed I need to have new speedo gears too.

The speedo gauge has the same fitting so it was just to put it there, but when I flipped it over and was eager to put the black front plate on the trip scale was didn't fit.. So.. I had to flip the whole speedo gauge upside down so the trip scale was in the right position..

I figured that it can be changed but this isnt important because the scale is wrong anyway (US and not metrics) All holes exept one is there to put the trip scale right. So this is a winter project... :waah:

So I have now started to drill the holes for the 72 gauges,
I started with the temp gauge

My intention is to cover the old lightbulb holes with aluminium plate to make it proper, or maybe get another cluster and weld in a new piece of aluminium there to make it all flat.
In the picture below there are some holes for lights that arent used, so my idea is to use those and put the warning for high temp and charging light there next to each gauge.

This is a picture will all of them mounted.

Next step is to make a new front piece. My neighbor has his own company for commercial signs and what not so he will help me print some new decals to put on it.

To be continued

:welcome2: aboard!!!
Great progress on the Gauge Pod.:metal:
Although some purists may cringe at your changes, that's what this hobby is all about, in my eyes anyway.:uhmk:
Keep the pics coming, really interested in seeing the rest of your ride!;)

So, a tiny update.
I've been cutting a new front and made it on the second attempt.
And I've cut out the whole circles in the backing plate, this is done because the holes didn't have the same shape as the fuel gauge. So I cut all holes circles and my idea is to make a plate so the circles will be half a circle and all in same shape.

I also painted the backing plate tonight so will post picture of the result later on.
Didn't work to post pics from my IPhone... (Isn't it time to activate for apps on this forum??)

I'm sorry if I suck at explaining stuff in English, it's not my native language u know.

Why is the odometer upside down?

Well, as written above it's because the speedometer is from as 72 cluster and I needed to replace it and the only way was to flip the whole speedo "upsidedown" because the odometer is on below the speedo pin on the 72 cluster and on the 62 its above pin.

It is possible to make it correct but I need to spend some time making some holes in the speedo housing, the second reason it isn't important is that its in Miles and we use metrics here.. so kinda useless anyway..

So, the pictures!

I'll make the plates and cover the bottom of the circles and decals detailing next.

Im thinking maybe to add something to make it a little less black in some way..
