Building a 1985 Jimmy Ultra.

So what is with the Ultra, you ask. It is the motorout of a Buick Ultra ,a Supercharged 3800. It will be replacing a 3.4 crate motor that replaced a 2.8 ,soap maker.

Was going to do a 1948 - 1954 Chevy pickup but the wife said, why not do the Jimmy up? She liked this truck and it will be her daily driver.

So on with the show. Out with the old.

And out with the new/old.

Well with some work on the converter. But will it go into the Jimmy's motor room? Well close. Will need to move the A/C pump can't get to the motor mount.

Need some new motor mounts. Oil pan mod and what about the starter?

Cool swap. How much power does the supercharged 3.8 make?

Re: Building a 1985 Jimmy Ultra.

With alittle work I should be at 300HP, 300Tq. Best thing will be off the gas we are looking for 24 MPG?:uhmk: But that maybe wishing.;)

Re: Building a 1985 Jimmy Ultra.

We had an Impala a few years back with the NA 3.8 - great power and great mpg's. 24 mpg might not be unrealistic, hard to predict how the weight and aerodynamics will affect it but it'll be cool to see.

Well, you ain't skeered! Looks pretty cool, I've have several, great motor! Wonder how that '85 2.8 700r4 is gonna hold up? Are you having it upgraded and beefed?

Re: Building a 1985 Jimmy Ultra.

Going to leave it stock for now. I have been told that my 700r case can be built for big HP. Something about the V8 basket and more clutch plates/-+?

What about going from 2 1/4" out of the headers (cut down stock) to a 2 1/2" merg to a 3" to 3" Cat. then 3" down to 2 1/5 muffler to 2 1/4" tailpipe?

If this sounds funny, it stuff I have on hand.

I had ordered a exhaust from a older 3800 and found (when it got here ) it was not the same exhaust pattern. My bad! Other part will be here on Wed.;)

Re: Building a 1985 Jimmy Ultra.

Went with a cross over with a welded-in merge. Now working back to the 3" cat. So we go (stock cut up header) to 2 1/4" to 2 3/8 to 2 1/2 to 3" cat to 2 1/5 " exhaust cat back.

Re: Building a 1985 Jimmy Ultra.

What about a fuel pump? The crate motor needed a pump (no boss on the 3.4 motor for a pump) so we mounted it on the frame. My Jimmy did not have a pump in the tank. So what about mounting ( High Pressure EFI in line pump) it on the frame,in the same place but adding High Pressure fittings?

Some work on the exhaust pipe and cat. Thinking about using a flex from the cat to the muffler??
