A 61 Chevy C30, 9 foot stepper Called "Big Boy"
Hello, my name is Jay and I recently bought this truck after strolling thru the project section of Craigslist. I find a great deal of relaxation scrolling throu the rust buckets that are still lingering around in my state of Florida. Im a 35yo father of five married to a PuertoRican. Enough said..lol
I usually buy and sell cars online and never developed any emotional attachment to them. I've always maintained a profit before attachemnt mentality so I always keep em flipping. This one did something when it came home that made my wife go off the hinges. She went off about me wanting to keep this truck. "Nahh baby, Im just gonna slap a windshield on it and some clean tires and let some old dude with a bunch of money restore it or what ever they do.." She looked at me and said " How old are you?" That night I went online and tryed to find some info to market it and get it ready for sale..... Found nothing. Looked on youtube, Nothing. I decided to post some pics on the H.A.M.P and some guy said it was a nice truck but nothing solid. Some other dude told me he just had one on CL and couldn't get $500 for it so he scraped it. Im not sure if he was hating or he was serious but another dude told me to come here because there were a bunch of people here who know these trucks front to back. His name was Flat-N-Low by the way. Thanks to him I landed here. Posted a thread called A rare find? 1ton 1961 Chevrolet Apache C30 Longbed Stepside and I was told this is a very rare truck. Some elders mentioned that they have never seen this truck. "Baby? I've always wanted to restore an old truck....." lol. :chevy: http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j2...psc9699d3e.jpg http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j2...ps17d49459.jpg http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j2...ps247e48aa.jpg http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j2...psf106f5fc.jpg http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j2...ps9aa6b912.jpg http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j2...psbaf7de57.jpg http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j2...ps654f94bf.jpg http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j2...ps20909b1d.jpg http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j2...psbebb034c.jpg http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j2...ps65b7bff9.jpg http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j2...psbeeebc08.jpg http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j2...ps8da1cce1.jpg http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j2...psf3f88a99.jpg http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j2...ps5bde3dda.jpg http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j2...ps059bcb2a.jpg |

Re: A 61 Chevy C30, 9 foot stepper Called "Big Boy"
I got some things done today but ended on a bad note. I sanded all the channels out and cleaned them all up real good with soap and water. Slapped some primer all around and got ready to install the glass. Got to the box, lifted the glass and my son said he saw a crack. My heart sunk and I was deflated. Did't show on the video because it was coming up from the bottom right. Sorry, didn't take a picture of the glass, I was too pist off. I called and they were nice enough to send me out a new one. That pushed all my shop appointments back a week. I had plans to hit the muffler shop tomorrow and get the duels on em. Had an appointments with the tire man. That's postponed. Sorry guys, wish it would of turned out different. We'll get the glass right next week. I'm gonna be working on the rust tomorrow. Here are a few pics and a video of today's activities. Enjoy!!

Too bad about the windshield. Ive been there before, get a bad part or a part that requires mods when you've got other projects lined up. You'll be back on track in no time.

I'll be removing a large sheet of metal off the bed today to expose the planks. I curious to see what condition it's all in. Should be interesting since they welded the cheep metal in. Hopefully my grinder can hit those spot welds. http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j2...ps8da1cce1.jpg |

Nice start you have. Be careful I started with replacing the windshield and seal and now I am in a full blown restore!

Really liking the utube videos, Better than pictures, The green tint will work good down there in south florida, Make sure the glass company comes with the green tinted one and not the gray shaded one like they tried to dump on me. Waiting to see whats under that bed cover, be interesting what ever it is.

Re: A 61 Chevy C30, 9 foot stepper Called "Big Boy"
Today we were up with the birds doing work. I came in to post a little update. The guys from Autoglassstop.com were here early to install my glass and are working hard on getting this glass on for me. The rubber seal I got from the previous owner was the wrong one. So They sent a tech to fetch one in broward somewhere. So we're just waiting on him to get back with the rubber to continue. Managed to take a few pics. Enjoy.

It looked to me like it was going in. But the guy on the left said it was the wrong gasket and took it off and hauled ass. Im calling the office now to see if it's an experience issue and not a gasket issue. |

Steele Rubber has great gaskets. That's who I went with. They are a little more than the repop catalogs, but USA made and a very nice product.
