Hi all, new to the forum, I'm doing my first frame shortening, first 67-72 chevy and first 4x4 conversion... First 4x4 I've owned actually... Thought if make a build thread and if any of you have any advice or tips I'd appreciate them!
I'm starting with a 69 2wd camper special |

Be sure to add reinforcement plates to the inside of the frame, you did your frame differently than in this thread but i wanted you to scroll down and look at how they reinforced the inside of the channel.

I was planning on just boxing in the frame right there... Do you think the reinforcing plate will be better?

Re: Camper special shortened and converted to 4x4
boxing the frame will reinforce only the Inside ,not the outside where you did the weld. imo its way better to weld a plate Inside the frame

Re: Camper special shortened and converted to 4x4
Okay questions.... I'm going to pull the inner fenders and maybe the outter fenders then install front 4x4 gear... I'm using rear hangers from a 79, I know they aren't the same as 67-72... Should work though, my question is about the steering box, I have a 4x4 steering box but in other threads I've read that they don't match up bolt hole wise... What do I need to do? Also I'm going to put the trans in, got an auto trans and 203 case out of a 79 gmc, does the trans crossmember go in the same holes as a 2wd? Is it that easy? Or do I need to drill? And where should I drill... Also unsure about motor mounts... Do I need to just find 67-72 4x4 mounts? Or are there other options? Thanks for any help!
