Electric brake hook up question
 

OK, I have a 1990 R1500 Suburban. I want to hook up electric brake for towing a trailer. I bought it used and not sure if the plug in the back was from the factory or not. I installed one on my 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee and there was a wire under the dash I just had to plug into and run the hot & neg.. It was a walk in the park. Does these Suburbans have the same thing or do I need to wire to the plug in the back?

Look in your engine compartment just next to the brake booster (or underneath and right). There may be some thicker wire bundle (blue and red) that is set up from factory to use for trailer brakes. You can use these to hook up a controller inside and the use the same in the back. Depending on the style, you may have something old (4 or 5 pin round). Hard to say but the best method is to break out a tester.

I originally had a round, 5 plug setup on my K-5 and converted it over to the more common 7-spade circle connector. I used my 04' suburban with a factory connector as a confirmation check.

I just went out and looked under the hood. I found the red & blue bundle by the brake booster. I followed the lines and and they go into connector and really cant find where they go after that. Is there and end to them or are you to splice into them? Its a little hard for me to really look, I've got really bad back problems. I'm trying to get as much info as possible, as my buddy is going to hook it up for me.

I'm lucky enough to have a seven plug set up in the rear.

Ok, got it now. My son came out an followed the wires for me. I was looking at the wrong bundle this first time. Smart a$$ kid says, "when are you getting your eyes checked old man"? I asked him if when he wanted beat with my cane? He followed the wires to the back and everything looks to be hooked up. Just need to put in the controller and run the wires to where they need to be.
