1954 gmc 150 rehab
 

Hello all I have been here for some time now, allready owning a 60,62,65,two 66, c20 chevy trucks and being on the 60 thru 66 forum, so now I own a 54 gmc that I will be putting back on the road, it wont be anything nice just a daily driver with a patina look. The truck came from northern cal in the city of redding I was only able to get the cab and front clip as the rest had been crushed. So whats my plan well after consulting the face book groups and hearing what people had to say about me putting the cab on a 66 chassis I have now decided to put the cab on a 93 s10 frame. So here are some photos of my project.

So I got a little work done last week on the frame and cab, I managed to get the s10 cab mounts cut off and got the cab set up on the frame, its setting on 4x4 wood blocks right now to give me an ideal of height placement. I also got some photo's of the truck with her new owner......My wife....LOL she's not going to like the photo, then my daughter had to step in...... teen agers!

So now on to fabbing up my cab brackets, this is the template I am going to use that I found on this forum, any thoughts before I do this?

So I am going to use the s10 cab mounts haven't really seen anything on this does anyone have any ideals about this? I picked up 4 of the rear cab mounts this weekend at pick n pull. 1/2 off sale a whopping $1.99 each. (EDITED 15 MINUTES AFTER I POSTED AND ONE GOOGLE SEARCH LATER) Its funny what you find when you do a google search, I just found bartmans s10 conversion with the s10 cab mounts. some future ideals for longlegs 54 truck. she would like to have a flate bed, and I suggested have a 55 cadi bumper.

Bud Man what is the height of the cab brackets? it looks like 4" will you be adding rubber bushing? if so what are the heights of those?

Dane Stilfield 4" + rubber (prt#2123) 3/4"+stock floor brace of 1"+ stock rubber shim (steel) 1/8". So it's 5 7/8

Bud Man thank you! so the rubber cab mount is custom? or is it a s10 cab mount? like the one in the photo

Hey Bud Man! sorry to have been part of the blow up on the other forum about the track widths. Good to see that you went the S-10 direction with this. Oh, this is Chip Quinn, by the way! I'll be following your progress over here too!

No problem, Just happen to have two of those 66 frames and wanted to use them if I could, but it just would have been too much work to convert it over to have it work correctly. As it happen I now have two s10 frames, one for this 54 project and now I have a second for the a 56 that I have had since I was 18 and it burned down to the ground. So I hope to have it up here to some time soon in the near future.

Got a little done this weekend, I managed with the help of my sons to get the inner fender wells removed and the front fenders bolted onto the truck. So now I know where to locate the truck on the frame.

Got the cab brackets started to this weekend, I started with a piece of 4" x 4" 3/16" wall thickness. Then I laid out the pattern on the 4" x 4" and started cutting. Here is what I what I ended up with, the brackets are 6" long for the rear cab mounts, the front cab mount will be shorter but not sure how much yet. Then I cut a 45 degree angle on the end where the rubber cab mount will sit. From that point I cut the frame notch in the bracket. The bracket will sit 1" above the frame, then I will use the standard s10 isolation mounts they will stand 1 1/4" above the bracket, for a total height of 2 1/4" above the frame. From there I will mount a 1"x 2" steel tube spacer that I will weld to the bottom of the cab at the original mounting locations. This will bring the total height up to 4 1/4" off the frame to the bottom of the cab. The total cost of the bracket thus far is $35 for a 4' piece of steel tube, and $ 1.99 x 4 for the s10 cab mounts. I was able to cut all four of the cab mount with a 4" grinder in about an 1 hour.
