New (Old) Daily Driver Find !

My 97 Burb has been getting eaten up by the rust bug the last few years so I've spent the last 3 months looking for the right truck and the right deal.
I had my sights set on an 05 or 06 burb with 100k miles give or take. I'm picky so I had a list of musts that made it a patience testing process. So yesterday my wife found a two prospects at a dealer so we went to look at them. Both had second row bucket seats- so no go. I got home and did a search and found a 99. Much older than the plan, but newly listed and only 43000k miles on it. As I was running out the door, I asked my wife to call an make sure they still had it. This thing is a time capsule and it now sits in my garage.
The only thing I don't care for are the fender flare running board combination, but these particular ones are good for saving the paint and keeping the rust away. Many just trap dirt and moisture and cause problems. pics soon

That looks awesome! You are right, I don't care for those fiberglass boards either.

Gorgeous! That is a fantastic find, I love that color, it was only available a couple years. I would be inclined to remove all of that scaffolding/trim, clean and undercoat the rockers very well, and install the narrow factory polished wheel trim. Please please please tell us that you're going to keep the oem alloy wheels, with as clean as that thing is, they look GREAT on there.

I plan on keeping it as factory as possible ( wheels and all ) I was experimenting with removing the flares and they seem like they would be easy to remove and are pretty clean underneath. The spoiler wing is going to stay because of the holes in the roof (I think )

Photos have been added of the truck without the scaffolding. I had to take them off, and only a few slight paint blemishes to buff , a few spots of adhesive to remove and a few holes to put newly painted stainless steel screws in. Then I'll spray the frame rails with rust converter until I decide if i'm going to get some different running boards or not. If I can find another way to protect the body from rocks etc, I won't get any.

I was thinking of bedliner on the rocker panels, topcoated to match the body paint, but I don't know if the DIY stuff will hold up.

To my knowledge Line-X is the only bedliner that is impermeable to water. I know for a fact that Rhino is porous enough to allow seepage and rust/bubble/peel from there. Most import thing with any of them is surface prep, the place that did 4 of my dad's trucked scuffed the beds for proper adhesion and we never had a problem.

I like the look without any running boards. It looks tough. Those flares made it look like a girly truck.
Mudflaps will be added soon and I will see what happens from there

Nice find! Almost hard to believe they're out there with that kinda mileage, but I got my '97 Hoe with 71k miles about a year and a half ago. I dig the two-tone seats & didn't realize they came like that.

This was a Gran Prix conversion truck. Gran Prix put in the power sunroof, heat pads in the seats, fiberglass running boards and spoiler, stainless rocker trim, plastic wood trim pieces on the dash and the custom leather seat covers. I got the window stickers with it. Chevy sticker says $38k GranPrix sticker is $45k after accessories.
I just wish they would have taken out the worthless factory console and put in something useful. I'll be building a custom one soon.

Ah, the conversion makes sense. My old '93 was a conversion truck with the wood (real) grain interior trim, & it had the fiberglass running boards as well. Like you, I eventually removed the running boards. Interested in seeing what you do with the center console. I have the same one, but it doesn't bother me. Admittedly, I don't use it too much though. I've used the one on the dash more than the console.

I now have a name for this old Burb. I'm going to call it J. Edgar or Edgar for short.
Why ?

Because it used to wear a skirt !
