My new '67 project.

So here's my story.
Buying this truck from my cousin. He moved out of state and left it in his mothers backyard about 5 yrs ago. I saw it 3 yrs ago and have been wanting it ever since. I believe it's from Texas since there's a TX plate laying on floor. Super solid with faded paint. Here's what he emailed about the truck. "It's a 67 Chevy c-10 Has a 454 big block, that I put a bunch on parts on including; Headman ceramic coated headers, aftermarket intake which I believe is a Weiand, Edelbrock carburetor, and a bunch of chrome. Last I knew I was running technically but I think may need some work or be partially rebuilt. I was driving it and it started knocking so I shut it off. Possibly a rod or bearing, I'm not sure. I never had the chance to get into it. It has a 700r4 transmission that was professionally built and it suppose to be good to 700 horsepower. I put in a lock-rite locker in the 12 bolt rear end which has aftermarket gears but I can't remember the ratio. The exhaust is 3" run though Flow-master 2 chamber exhaust dumped by the rear axle, which sounds awesome but might be a little loud for some people. But it wouldn't take much to run it out the back to quit it down. There are a bunch of new seals for the windows and doors and I think there might even be the original back window for it which was taken out and replaced with a slider." I'm selling the motor and possibly the rearend. I have a rebuilt 235 that I'll put in it. I went tonite to have another look before I pull the trigger. Here's a pic. Thanks for reading my thread. Tried to start the truck the other day. Makes it hard when there's no STARTER!!! Something my cousin didn't mention.
Now we have to haul it to by buddy's place. He's a big block guy so he has starters and all kinds of parts. We've decided if the "knock" isn't anything serious I'll keep the motor. If it's going to be costly to rebuild I'll pull it and put in my straight six. I haven't had much experience with truck chassis before so I have couple of questions. I would like to lower it, so the top of the tire is even with the lip of the fender, maybe 3" and 4". Will just changing out the front and rear coils be enough? I want to run 15" WW tires on steel rims with 'caps. Do the tires need to be truck tires for a C10 short box? I don't plan on hauling much in it. Any recommendations on tire size. I'm thinking wider in the rear. Thanks for any info you can provide. |

You will also need to C-notch the rear frame get a 6" drop spring with a 1/2" drop block. You will also need an adjustable Trac bar. Total drop will be 4.5/6.5 F/R. Rims and tires are a point of debate IMO because 15" wheels look kinda silly on a dropped truck because they look too small in the fender well. You can go 10" wide max in the rear. IMO 20" wheels are too much of a pain in the arse because you will have to do modifications to accommodate them and they cost too much, 18" is a good size because you get the look and no compatibility problems. Bigger wheels/tires and a major drop isn't in my budget so that will have to wait til later. 20" wheels just isn't my thing, I'm pretty old school. And I'm sure I'll have more questions. |

I disagree, I think 15`s with the right size tire look good on a dropped truck. Here`s mine with a 4.5* 6 drop(all from cpp) with 235/75/15`s. Dont mind the mismatched panels, that was when i was rocking an extra body while i painted mine. Now mine is layed out-- on 15`s still.

Well 2" & 3" is better than nothing.

Got the truck to my buddy's place using a dolly.
Put in a starter and fired it up. Yep, it knocks alrighty!! So, now I'm looking for a small block. I'm not convinced the straight six is gonna make me happy. Well, at least it's a start. |

The truck has a big block in it at the moment but he has a inline 6 he could swap in, but he doesn't think a 6 would satisfy him so he's looking for a small block to swap in.

Stick with the 15s maybe 16 at the most. Don't need to have any bigger, I'm old school too and they look good with some meat
