So i am lowering my truck.. properly right now the springs are just cut up front and heated in the rear. it worked for the summer. i love where the truck sits right now but it handles like a boat and bottoms out on everything. i cant complain i did it to myself haha. so i need to do it properly but what should i do to keep it at about the same height and the same rake. Please let me know what you guys would do!

Re: Lowering my truck
4/6 or 5/7 drop would get it there probably, going 4/6 on mine. Love the truck!

Re: Lowering my truck
When you do it, weither its 4/6 or 5/7 don't go all spring. use drop spindles and springs on the front and springs and drop blocks for the rear. Way2lo2 is a awesome guy on here that makes great block and bolt kits.
Here is a link to his blocks and bolts. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=454824 Hope that helps you out. and I love the truck |
Re: Lowering my truck
2 1/2 drop spinde; in the front and a 4" drop spring in the rear will get you that look, say around 370.00 plus shipping unless you go through SUMMIt RACING, FREE shipping over $100.00 order's

Re: Lowering my truck
I am new to the forum, so please excuse me if jumping in to ask a related question is not the correct procedure....I have a 72 short bed - the springs appear to have been heated and spaced - it is close to level, but not perfect.
If going with the drop spindles, would you need to replace all the springs with stock height? And why use a combo of springs and spindles? Is that to make alignment easier? I am worried that I will have to buy springs twice to get the right look... |
Re: Lowering my truck
The spring and spindle combo is the best route, instead of all spring. yes it makes it easier to align. I would start with the spindle, but since you have ruined springs that makes it hard to judge what spring to buy. You could start with a 1 or 2 in drop sping in the front and then cut a 1/4 of a coil off till you get your desired height. Or hit up a junk yard for some stockers and cut then till you get what height you want.

Re: Lowering my truck
I had a 4in drop on the rear of my 67 and it was about that height in the rear you could probably do even a 5in but 6 or 7 inches in the rear and your not really going to have a take at all.

Re: Lowering my truck
Thanks everyone! sorry my computer broke er.. well i broke it. but i have another one to use for the time being and i appreciate all the replies and advice! so i should do a lowering spring and a drop spindle combo on the front and a spring and block combo on the rear? my old man has got 2 and a half inch drop spindles i am gonna use so now how low of springs to get then?

I agree...that looks like a 4/6 most likely. My '67 was dropped prior to my purchase...but is a 5/7 I believe. For it to clear the centerline smoothies the 20" tires are rubber bands.
I've gone over to rally wheels for everyday driving...so I've been stuck with a 215/70 on the front vs. the 235/75 I wanted to run. If I can find a set of 7" 6 lug rally wheels I can get the 235's back on to give me about 1/2" more clearance. With the 215's rubber bands I found the dropped area for the tag liked to find the pavement on uneven roads at highway speeds. The 20" rubber bands would allow the lower control arms to slightly catch on rough highway transitions. If you are daily driving it, I would suggest the 4/6. Still looks great and gives you more clearance and driveability. |
