72 door panels without scroll
Can some give advice on some replacement door panels for my 72 c10? I have the original black scroll panels. They are in pretty bad shape and need replacing. I don't care for the scroll patern. Will another years simple door panels bolt right on? If so it would be nice to see some pictures. Thanks guys
Buy the way I'm new. I pare it all the good info on the forum. |
Re: 72 door panels without scroll
72 is a one year only door panel. The cst trim option, had the scroll panels. The base trim level, had the plain non scroll panels.

Re: 72 door panels without scroll
welcome to the forum dert. what turp said - 72 had four trim levels: Custom, Custom Deluxe, Cheyenne, and Cheyenne Super. Only the "Custom" trim level (which is what you got if you didn't select any trim level upgrades, i.e. the base level as mentioned) had the no-scroll pattern. Can't swap 67-71 panels in without some work. The 72-only panel is deeper and, therefore, the window cranks, etc are longer to clear the deeper panels. I don't know anyone that produces aftermarket base panels, I think they all make the scroll ones. Quality is so-so, and since most people upgrade trim level rather than downgrade, I bet you could easily find some on the parts board on this site.

Re: 72 door panels without scroll
Any year 67-72 panel will fit. You can add 67-71 panels by drilling a few holes. As stated above the window and door regulators are longer on a 72, and would protrude a bit with the earlier panels. You can swap them out or just leave them if it does not bother you, they function the same.

Welcome to the board and driving these great trucks. Your simplest solution will be to find some Plain Jane '72s on the parts board or locally. Here's what they look like. Just presto change-o

Re: 72 door panels without scroll
Great. Good info guys. My truck has a custom/10 delux badge. So I guess the scroll came stock. So I'll look for some door panels for a 72 custom. Can you guys recommend a aftermarket/reproduction company that my sell the 72 custom panels?
Thanks |
Re: 72 door panels without scroll
Check with board member Teeitup. He has several threads on the Parts board right now. I just bought two sets of door panels from him.

Re: 72 door panels without scroll
I don't know of anyone that sells the plain Custom trim level panel on the aftermarket (i.e. re-pops) - you can probably find them on this board. LMC, and many others, sell the correct (no woodgrain) scroll panels for your 72 though. Just don't like the scroll?? You could probably sell your scroll ones on here for less than you would buy your non-scroll ones on here :) Check the parts board for folks "parting" entire trucks. If they are just the Custom level, well, there you go! Probably get em for a song since most prefer the scroll. Personally, I like the scroll ones, think they are a nice touch, but completely understand wanting to have your truck the way you like it. (on second thought, you might want to hang onto those original scroll panels in case you ever sell the truck - the seller just might want em...)

Re: 72 door panels without scroll
Yeah I agree with what the others say about fitment. I also agree that the scroll is hideous.

Re: 72 door panels without scroll
An idea if you need new panels. Not sure if there are any repop wood overlays that covered that whole recessed area including where the scroll is. You could paint those or do just about anything with them and then cover the scroll

Re: 72 door panels without scroll
My 72 has original panels non scroll. Unfortunately someone along the way ditched parchment and painted them black now it constantly chips with white showing through.
Wondering if a light media blasting could fix them or maybe a better paint |
Re: 72 door panels without scroll
lacquer thinner will remove the bad paint.... Get ya some SEM rattle cans in the right color and a spray can of Bulldog adhesion promoter, a little scotch bright pad to scratch the surface with some soap and water. Dry off, spray the bulldog in light mist coats and paint. Trevor
