V-6 to V-8 ?

Will small or big block bolt directly in stock location (without moving trans) when v-6 and spacer are removed?

I don't know, but why the conversion?

If I was somewhere and someone popped the hood of one of these trucks, here's my reaction:

V6 : Awesome! You never see those anymore! How's it run?
350: Oh.

If no one can answer from experience, I'd break out the parts book and look there. That's what I've done in the past when I needed to know if, for example, the trans mount were different between the two applications. Or the frame stands, that sort of thing.

Truck doesn't belong to me, but I'm not a big fan of v-6. Curious if anyone has done it? If I were to buy and drive v-6 wouldn't be feasible.

Which v6?

Why would buy and drive V6 not be feasible? Are they really that bad of a motor? I've never had one.

My brother and I love the V6 in his 69. They are pure low end torque monsters. Completely different in feelfrom my 350.

Do you mean you have a V-6 or the I-6? Completely different.

The GMC V-6 was an awesome motor. Tons of torque and virtually indestructible. No, it's never going to be a racing motor, but it's as dependable as they come.

Uncle, try this link:

https://www.google.com/#q=site:67-72...1967+-+1972%22

I find it easier to search google for threads, than using the search on vbulletin forums. If you save the link, you can just replace the keywords (but leave the site:.... command) and it will pull up results for whatever you are looking for.

Hope that helps. From a cursory look, there seem to be numerous threads on the subject.

You have to change the bell of course but Im pretty sure you have to change the motor mount stands on the cross member. I did this swap with a buddy once but it was in a 61 ,totally different animal.

Well I didn't know until today that the 305 V6 was not the largest V6 they actually had a 351 V6 67-68 only and the 305 through 69. I'm thinking you knew that but if not I'm thinking you might find it interesting.

I have only heard good things about them being torque monsters but they never made it to NASCAR LOL. I've heard them run they sound like they are gurgling. My wife heard one and she said it sounded like me in the bathroom....

Re: V-6 to V-8 ?

Tim,

I researched the exact same thing back when I had a 1968 GMC 1-ton. It was a 305, with a SM-420 behind it. I wanted to pull the V6, but the SBC had to go back in the "right" place to make the rest of the driveline line up (It was a dump with a PTO).
I will see if I can find my PM's about it, but going off of memory, you had to use small block mounts in the I-6 holes on the frame, and everything is suppose to go back. I never did it, I sold the truck instead.
Hope this helps, and if I find those PM's I will copy them to you.

Thanks!
BBB

In the same V-6 family, GMC also built a 401 and a 478. There were a lot of early 60's straight trucks hauling hay with those 401s.
