Blood Sweat and Tears.. 67 Build Thread

Ok, here we go...
I just started on the tear down today a little bit by going straight to some spots on the body that I knew was already worked over the wrong way. I just didnt know how wrong it was until I broke out the grinder... I have never seen so much bondo in my life... The front roll pan was a home made deal using extremely thin sheet metal and TONS of bondo. The tailgate was smoothed (I use the term loosely) with the same thin sheet metal and bondo, but is going in the book as a lost cause after pulling the sheet off from the inside that was covering some bad cancer. I decided to not even waste my time on the out side knowing it is probably just as bad. Stay tuned for more of the tear down... |

Pulling the front clip off tonight and hit a brick wall with the wiper arms... of all things lol
I sure would like to have a word with the wiper arm engineer guy from back then right about now. Any suggestions on how to not mangle them trying to pry them off while dealing with the clip? |
Re: Blood Sweat and Tears.. 67 Build Thread
Good luck with your build. The truck looks good, but I guess looks can be a bit deceiving. Glad you're willing to do it right.

The wiper arm should have a small tab on the bottom at the splined shaft. Pull it out lightly with a screwdriver or hook tool and then work the arm off the shaft. Sometimes they can just be gently pried off (most of the tension is from the spring inside the arm holding the arm to the windshield).

Re: Blood Sweat and Tears.. 67 Build Thread
Little bummed to find out I dont have a 4 bolt main and its from a 85 to 94 truck... I knew it was newer because of the metric bolts hear and there. Oh well.
Any way, the front clip is off and I see it has been in a bit of a wreck at some point.. the right front fender is from a 68 and the radiator support is bent up a bit on that side.. the deflector is bent up as well. The frame horns look to be straight though so thats some good news... I should be able to go get the Vette suspension this weekend and maybe order a few other parts. I have a couple friends that collect 67 c10s, blazers, and burbs that I can get some stuff off of. they get all their parts from the Mid-West and anything I get from them should be rot free. I know they have a core support so thats a start. Ill be selling some stock stuff like the hood and front suspension with cross member as I pull it off and also have a sweet like new bench seat thats comfy as hell Ill sell too. More updates coming soon. |

Whats a short bed weigh? Just the bed... Anyone know?
|
Re: Blood Sweat and Tears.. 67 Build Thread
Looked like a real nice truck to start with. Amazing what paint can hide. Still looks like a good start. I'm not sure of the bed weight but I remove and install mine with an engine hoist and two yellow ratchet straps cris crossed.

Nice start! Man when my truck started i NEVER expected to find so much rust. But shes rust free now:metal:. A TON of rust was cut out. Another 1 of our trucks SAVED and put back on the road! Check out the metal work on my build thread. Post as many pics as you can. Good luck!

More pics of the tear down showing some things that need attention...
Still looking good all in all... I have no idea what that big chunk of the frame was torched out for? You can get a good look at how NOT to lower a truck by the way the coils are collapsed. SMH.... do NOT heat coil springs! |
Re: Blood Sweat and Tears.. 67 Build Thread

I was off today and couldnt just sit around... so i went out and started stripping.. the old fashioned way.
Got a pretty good start. The fender is only held on with 2 bolts as I wanted to see how it matched up to the door with no filler or a gazillion layers of paint... undecided on trying to save the other fender or replace it. Its a 68 fender with a horrible patch job over the side light hole. Need something smaller to get in the low areas on back of the cab.. With any luck Ill have it down to metal all around the outside next weekend and will only have to blast the inner and under stuff, and door jams and what not and then once I pull all the glass and handles Ill clean those areas up, but for now its a start.. |
Re: Blood Sweat and Tears.. 67 Build Thread

Re: Blood Sweat and Tears.. 67 Build Thread
Well I guess thats what I get for buying stuff when Ive been drinking... I got the gauge carrier this morning and its made from ABS Plastic... not CF at all! :(
How can someone justify selling a thin plastic part for 140 bucks?? Im not even sure it will hold the weight of the gauges without warping in the heat of summer... :cuss: |
