Junkyard's 71 short wide

My dad and I have been searching for shot bed for a while. Just over a week ago after work (I get off at midnight) I was looking on craigslist and found this short wide 71. The ad had only been up for a couple of hours and I knew the truck would go fast, so I sent the owner a message (and hoped he didn't hate me since it was so late). When I woke up in the morning I called my dad and told him about it. A shot time later the owner replied so my dad called him. The truck was really nice but it was about 2 1/2 hours away from us. My dad one the quality of the truck was good so we agreed to the asking price as long as he held it until we could get there. We rounded the truck and trailer up and headed north. We agreed to be there at 2 pm so we didnt have any time to spare. We ll wouldn't you know just an hour into the trip we shred a tire on the trailer. We left without a spare... so I find a tractor supply not far off and not having time to wait on a tire shop to put a new tire on we opted to just buy a new one. Off we are again and after traffic and construction we got there over an hour late. The owner was very understanding with us. It took us about 10 minutes to look it over before we paid the owner. It is a super nice short wide with new everything. The truck has a rebuilt 350 with some nice goodies in it and a rebuilt 400 trans. The frame is covered in por15 frame is c-notched with a static 5/7 drop new brakes tubular upper a-arm and more. Here are some pictures of it loaded at cracker barrel.

A little clarification on the title name. My dad was a firefighter in Austin for 34 years and bought and sold cars on the side. He earned the nickname junkyard because of some of the junk cars he would drive to work. My dad has always put others before himself and has refused to spend money on himself. I finally have been able to get him into a nice truck (this one). My dad has helped me build two other very nice trucks and I am glad I can finally help him with one of his own.

Today was tear down day. Despite how good the truck looks right now it need some help in the paint area. the inside was painted with a rattle can and the outside is chipping away due to a bad spray job. Fortunately the truck has very little rust and is very strait. Here are a few tear down pictures and a couple of the suspension. I didn't take many pictures outside because it was raining pretty good all day long here.

Here you can see where the paint is flaking off under the filler neck. Not exactly sure what caused it to do that but its coming off.

The cab is completely stripped out and ready for floor pans and rockers. Then off to paint. The tailgate is getting some body work done by Raymond (Works at the shop that will paint in the truck). My dad and I will do most of the work but paint and body are left up to our professional friends (we want it to look right and we are not that good).

That looks like you started off with a decent truck. I'll be watching this one.

Getting the accessories sorted out for the motor. My parts guy set me up with the a/c bracket that helps with headers. I really like it so far.

Ooooo, candy... Nice paint!

Not to be overly critical, but that brake booster is mounted crooked. I think the shiny part goes on the bottom.

Hahaha yup it is. I think I'll fix that. We had it rolled out of the way to mess with the cab but it is right side up again.

Thanks. It was going to originally be solid candy red but we decided to break it up a bit.

We are going to have to put a shorter tire up front to clear the fenders but my dad might change the wheels anyway. Hopefully the bed will be mounted up for the last time on Monday! We are getting close.

Awesome work as always, ya'll make it look easy. Do you ever take any pics in front of the old "City Garage" in downtown Salado? I love driving past it lol

Today we worked on electrical issues and the radio/speakers. We went with the kick panel speakers and a Sony radio we had laying around. I also included a shot of the factory a/c hole we cut in the dash. We have a vintage air unit that is going in, but I really like the factory look vs the aftermarket a/c options. It wasn't too hard to cut out with a drill/airsaw.
