69-72 blazer carpet strip (front)

I had the opportunity to pick up a good carpet hold down for the front, right behind the front seats. There is really nothing to it. I know they are not being reproduced. I have spoke to a couple different companies regarding fabricating these in stainless steel. Would there be a market for these strips? There is really nothing to them, I can't believe nobody has tried to reproduce them.

I know plenty of people would like to get their hands on one. They go quick when they come up on the parts board.

I would be interested in one

Re: 69-72 blazer carpet strip (front)

they really are pretty simple, but it would take a pretty good sized break to bend them, especially the 1/8'' or so bend. I'm sure they would have to be made in a large lot to make them affordable. I would definitely be in for one.

I would be on board for these also.

I had not seen one in person until recently, I found one in very nice shape here local. I took it to a stainless steel manufacturing company for a quote in a glass finish. Only difference they told me would be the back lip would either be smooth or just a bit longer. They said the countersunk screw holes would add quite a bit to the price

So what was the quote?

I am having a some 69 - 72 Blazer front carpet retainers reproduced for myself and a couple of board members. These are excellent reproductions manufactured from 16 gauge mirror finish stainless steel with correct bends and counter-sunk holes. If you want in on the production run they will be $90 to $100 shipped in a secure PVC tube. I must pay 50% up front before production. You can pay half now and half at completion in two weeks. I am placing production order on Monday. LMK.

I checked the board before I queried reproduction. On May 22, 2015 you had a for sale post for one at $175 and you stated that you were not seeking reproduction because of cost. Since I had others inquire I decided to pursue it.

I took mine to a big stainless steel fabrication shop and I am still waiting on an estimate. The only bend they would not be able to make exactly as the original was the back one. They advised that the back bend would be slightly longer than the tiny lip in the back. I figure it wouldnt make much of a difference if any difference at all because most guys use the backing. If anything i would think it would grab the carpet better. Had a small machine shop quote me $10 a piece from measurements and pictures. I'll let you all know what the stainless steel industries quotes me

That's what I said. Never got around to taking the actual piece to them since it would be a 4 hour roundtrip drive so I'm still waiting on the big guys to give me a quote. The piece has been there 2 weeks now and still have not heard from them.

Another member just posted in the Blazer parts section about a production run so that is now 3 members currently in the middle of making them.

I agree, that's too many. I will put a pause on mine unless their prices are out of line which it doesn't seem like it at this point. Around $90-95 seems pretty reasonable.

Has anyone on the boards actually come through making and selling the front or rear carpet strips? I see lots of threads kicking it around, but none actually for sale!

Re: 69-72 blazer carpet strip (front)

I have owned 5 blazers only one had the angled carpet strip at the front and that one is a late 69 early 70. the other 4 that are 71/72 had the same rear carpet strip front and rear. What are considered rear carpet strips Several people I know have gotten a chromed bedstrip with no holes punched in it. same shape as the rear strip just no edge to hold the weatherstrip
